For those who just moved here: Spare the Air days have been happening (increasingly infrequently) since 1991. Transit was only free for like 5 or 6 of those days btw like 2004 and 2007. Remember?

511 is not owned by NextBus as far as I know. It's owned by the state -- by the Metropolitan Transit Commission -- and it's built and run by military contractor Science Applications International Corporation. NextBus is owned by NextBus.

The Chronicle reported it Monday, I believe. Could be wrong, but I know I read and heard about it before today. I always feel I'm missing out on something as a Muni fast-pass holder--just more crowded trains.
