Man... seeing this just makes me sad. I'm used to the massive RenFest in Kansas City with permanent structures that goes on every weekend for a couple months. It's more of a mainstream, advertised everywhere sort of thing too though. Texas, I'm told, also has some really nice festivals. Why is the Bay Area totally getting our ass kicked by the Midwest here? Oh, and since it's coming up, KC apparently is also one of the top places in the country for haunted houses. I don't think I know of a single one in the city or nearby. Definitely not a major, professional, annual operation like the half-dozen I'm familiar with from home. A shame I lived there for 25 years and never managed to get out to most of them.
