Rockin' Out at the Renaissance Faire

More dancing musicians

We checked out the Renaissance Faire on Sunday in Golden Gate Park, and...it was a complete and total blast. We saw live jousting, a group of people re-enacting The Merry Wives of Windsor, the truly awesome dancing musicians pictured above, and pirates, outlaws and the odd ninja or samurai.

Afterwards, we headed (in full regalia) to Tommy's for margaritas, where we had the best conversation ever:
"Were you at the Renaissance Faire?" asked a guy at the bar.

"Yes," we said. "How did you know about it?"

"I read SFist," he said.

"Cool!" we said. "We write for SFist!"

Thanks, random reader at Tommy's, for making us feel like a personage! And...we highly recommend going to Tommy's in full costume. Margaritas taste better when you're wearing a doublet.

Man... seeing this just makes me sad. I'm used to the massive RenFest in Kansas City with permanent structures that goes on every weekend for a couple months. It's more of a mainstream, advertised everywhere sort of thing too though. Texas, I'm told, also has some really nice festivals. Why is the Bay Area totally getting our ass kicked by the Midwest here?

Oh, and since it's coming up, KC apparently is also one of the top places in the country for haunted houses. I don't think I know of a single one in the city or nearby. Definitely not a major, professional, annual operation like the half-dozen I'm familiar with from home. A shame I lived there for 25 years and never managed to get out to most of them.
