What's Going On Here, Castro Pedestrian?

Some man was smacked by a scaffolding truck this afternoon in the Castro. A perfectly blunt SFist tipster informs us that "the traffic event in the Castro was very gory. A gentleman crossing the street was run over by both wheels of a scaffolding truck. Pretty gruesome! I'll post a pic to my flickr account."

Nice.

No word yet on the unidentified man's current condition. We hope he makes a fast recovery.

especially at that corner. I know of know other corner in SF where so many drivers feel compelled to make rushed/illegal turns, both left and right. Pedestrian bashing at it's most prolific.

I have thought for years that the intersection needs extra ped timing & left turn lights - just for starters

Taking the upcoming Zombie flash mob a little too seriously.

Poor guy.

Agreed, that intersection is bad news -- tons of people, but no pedestrian safety features. Bulbouts at the curbs would be a lifesaver. Come on, Bevan.

I saw the whole thing. The truck was going slow and the guy was in trouble before he went under the truck. It was a terrible situation I feel bad for the driver.

Bevan is too busy with who knows what. That intersection is a disaster, and we also have the Eureka St Freeway, which Noe Valley folk use to get from Market to Noe Valley at as close to 50 MPH as possible.

I've just heard that the poor guy has died. It was a terrible, terrible incident, and my heart goes out to everyone, including those who witnessed it. My friends who saw it told me some of the details, but they are really too horrible to post here out of deference to his friends and loved ones.

Which Castro intersection is that? It doesn't look like the Market & Castro intersection I would've expected a pedestrian/car accident to happen (where the F line stops and people stream all over the place).

The intersection is 18th and Castro, on the east side of the intersection.

You ought so watch 18th at Hartford as well. Even some MUNI buses seem to consider the stop sign discretionary. BTW, Bevan, I've seen you there, have you looked out the window?

Great news, that guy is alive and already released from the hospital! I had to call and check because this site was the only reason I thought he was dead.

The guy is my little brother and is still in the hospital. He will be in there for a while longer. Thank you for your kind words. His leg was badly damaged. Thankfully it was just his leg.

My partner and I are working on behalf of the pedestrian who was injured in this accident. We would very much like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident. Please contact us by e-mail at:

or you can reach us at 415-239-1150 (Ed or MJ)

Please contact us if you saw this accident. Thank you.
