Happy Olympics! (Oh, and did you see Zhang Yimou's reimagined opening ceremonies on Friday? That was some critically-acclaimed, chin-scratching, fun-because-Bush-seemed-confused entertainment. Agreed?)

I know they are covered with laquer and glue, but those strawberries look friggin' delicious!
The opening ceremonies were spectacular.
Bush looked like a total idiot. Every time they panned to him, he was checking his watch, or stretching or looking around, like he was so bored.
I cannot wait until he is gone. Ugh.
i thought the ceremonies were pretty cool. i enjoyed the sort of symbolic idea of having humans as pixels alongside giant lcd screens. zhang yimou's sense of color and composition was very evident throughout, and was badass as always.
i thought it was interesting that people were being critical of their choice of subject matter, such as glossing over the cultural revolution (going from confucious to space ships did leave a bit out) but i think that's somewhat unfair. the usa didn't have to include slavery or killing native americans in it's opening ceremonies.. there's a time and place to reflect on the past like that, but an opening ceremony isn't it.
the main thing that bothered me was that nbc's coverage was ridiculously bad. who decided that you needed announcers like a sporting event for something like this? and then why did they use sportscasters and not people who could intelligently deconstruct what is going on, while paying some reverence to the spectacle? those dudes would not shut up even during moments where the music was getting dramatic and interesting, and their 'analysis' left a lot to be desired in terms of depth or content. i really wish i could've just turned their voices off and enjoyed the ceremony as it was meant to be seen rather than hear them state the obvious over and over. it was also disappointing that they cut to commercials during a lot of the interesting transitions, i think there was probably some amazing choreography there..
Thanks for the shout-out, and sorry for the blur! All of the fruit was fake. I touched the lemons to make sure ... If you want to see it for yourself, I think it's on Pacific a little east of Presidio ave.
