THEATER: Joey Price's Emo! the Musical starts tonight. The song-and-dace spectacle is a "new musical satire about angst-ridden teens facing adversity. Will Colin let his best friend Chaz be with his forbidden, cheerleading love? Can the emo kids break the chains of societal norms? Will they be able to save the world from impending asteroid doom?!" Perfect for both normal folks and emotwats alike. (Runs through 8/30.)

8 p.m. // The Boxcar Theater (505 Natoma - 6th between Market and Mission) // $15-$30

STREET PERFORMANCE: For the past five years, the city has been blessed with the open mic at the 16th & Mission BART station (southwest corner). Happening every Thursday, brush aside the syringe needles and human excrement, grab a seat, and take in the live, outdoor entertainment. Tonight features a bevvy of local poets, MCs, musicians, comedians, dancers, etc. Feel free to boo/cheer loudly for the acts hate/love. Read more about it here.

9 p.m. // 16th Street Bart Station (16th & Mission streets) // free
