Anti-China Protester Falls From Chinese Consulate Roof In SF

Oops. A lady who staged a faux hanging from the roof of the Chinese consulate in San Francisco today "to protest human rights abuses in Tibet" was taken to a hospital after she buckled and plummeted. Nyendak Wangden, 22, of SF suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was whisked away to a local hospital for treatment. Protesters at the consulate, however, claim her rope was cut. Today's protest comes two days before the Beijing Olympic opening ceremonies.

Too bad it was only a thud and not a splat.

my favorite thing from watching this on the news last night was when one of the other young protesters stated "this wasnt SUPPOSED to happen!"

uh...excuse me? you ILLEGALLY trespass, HANG from a rope off of an international building, and yet somehow expect that THINGS WILL GO ACCORDING TO PLAN?

When I was in high school and we were pushing the envelope of our institutions policies on tolerance (gay, student of color etc.) we were completely aware that the administration could do anything at anytime. We may have been shocked sometimes at the responses, but there was no "supposed to happen" in the activists' game of chicken.

hahahaha!

"this wasnt SUPPOSED to happen!"

when you stage a FAKE HANGING high atop a building, it's pretty exactly what's supposed to happen.

I think the headline says it all. "Anti-China Protester Falls From Chinese Consulate Roof"

That's like waking up in the morning and reading the headline "Anti-RobinSF protester Falls From RobinSF's Roof."

Well, duh.

i cut the anti-RobinSF protester's rope.

couldnt it also be claimed that the consulate person who cut the rope was acting out of compassion for the hanging person?

Maybe they thought the person really was hanging to their death and cut the rope to prevent further strangulation. Its what they do in all the Medieval rescue movies like "Robin Hood Men In Tights"

200 marchers left City Hall at around 1:00 PM, so they should be yelling in front of the Consulate on Laguna with about 50 cops in tow, just about now.

I must admit I'm kind of impressed by these protesters. They take their cause seriously and they get off their asses, go out and take action to draw attention to it. I admire their ability to be so un-cynical, to keep thinking that their actions might some day have an effect on the world. I'm too cynical myself for such thinking, but I admire idealism in others.

Candlelight vigil at UN Plaza from 7-9 PM tonight.
Aug. 8: Peace March on Golden Gate noon-2PM
Aug. 9: Bike rally starting at Justin Herman at 11:00 AM

On it goes.
