San Francisco Chronicle to Cut 125 Positions

Employees were offered sweet buyout dealsa at the Chronicle today. The number we're hearing right now is that around 125 (as SF Weekly reports) jobs need to be pruned. Our sources tell us that the reduction will include many employees, though "not a lot [are] expected to be cut from newsroom."
The Weekly goes on to report that this round snips will be yet another buyout situation:
The buyouts, which will effect all departments and include management, will be officially offered starting on Monday, August 4.The buyout packages will be similar to the last round of buyouts and will include: 2 weeks pay per year of service, with a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 52 weeks.
If you recall back in May 2007, the Chron, founded in 1865, sliced off 25% of the staff in the newsroom. (Ugh. Sorry, kids. Our condolences.) More info, corrections, and updates as it unfurls.

Hey, it won't be long before the Chronicle just calls it quits -- and exists exclusively online as SFGate. And when that happens, Beyond Chron will change its name to "Beyond Gate." In fact, we've already reserved the domain name.

Just what the world needs, more unpaid journalists fighting for my spot on the SFist roster. Feh.
You're a smug jackass, Hogarth. Glad to see you could take time off from saving the world to speak down to us plebes.
Love BeyondChron, but my word: your high-minded ass chafes my own to its bubbly core.
So sad.
