Hit-and-Run (?) Driver Crashes Into Sam Adato's Drum Shop

Samsdrumshop.jpg

Holy Cripes! A little over two hours ago, a big 'ol gas guzzler crashed right into Sam Adato's Drum Shop, the preferred drum retail venue for local percussionists, at Ninth and Folsom Street. Check out the images (one more crash/snuggle shot after the jump!) and story sent in by reader Dan Rader:

I work right next door. and this just happened about an hour ago. Here are some photos....Sam Adato and His wife outside their busted shop. The driver ran away...Sam was supposed to open the store an hour earlier, luckily he wasn't in his shop when the SUV plowed through the front door.... WTF! Car goes through Sam Adato's Drum Shop! Supposedly a rouge motorcycle was going the wrong way on Folsom St. As it approached on coming traffic two cars were caught unaware. According to eye witnesses, one car turned and was hit by the white SUV causing it to crash into what was once Sam Adato's Drum Shop!

Luckily, no one was injured. For more shots of this morning's SOMA spectacular accident, check out his Flickr page here.

Update: It might not have been a hit-and-run, says one Kristen Chivers. Will SOMA ever be the same again?

hmmm... wonder if the license plate might lead to the driver?

"Supposedly a rouge motorcycle was going the wrong way on Folsom St."

All of this was caused by a red motorcycle huh?

If someone said that picture was photoshopped I would believe them...

check out the hair on that guy!

Jesus Christ! That must have made a noise. This is straight out of a cop buddy comedy. Were the drivers trying to avoid two blokes carrying a large pane of glass across the street? And the dude doing the hugging? Could he look any more like someone who works in a drum shop?

Best comment gets a rimshot.

rouge motorcycle or rogue motorcycle?

How is the a hit and run? It looks like that SUV hasn't run anywhere.

I am sure that, up in Heaven, John Cage enjoyed hearing that.

Got me snare, got me bass, got me toms, got me pedals, got me cowbell, got me hi-hat, got me ride, got me splash, got me _CRASH_!

I can't stop laughing at this, sorry hairy dude. It's like the sort of thing that would happen to Inspector Clouseau if he was trying to be really quiet.

This speedometer goes to 11.

Also: How awesome would it be if SFPD descriptions were made to conform to shades of the Revlon Color Wheel?

*crackle*
"Copy that, Adam-5 we have a suspect cruising north in a burnt rose Toyota Taur .... scratch that, mauve, repeat, mauve Toyota Taurus. Over?

*crackle*

You forgot the obligatory:
No arrests have been made.

clearly he felt there was not enough cowbell...

Driver ran off? Kids these days are taking the lessons of "Don't Get Caught" a little too far ... unless it wasn't his/her car and/or they were already high on something that may have impaired their driving even more than usual

I'll make my obligatory comment - Cars (and SUVs) need to be slowed down in the downtown.

user-pic

Is that Carole Migden in the second photo, hugging some dude with equally curly hair?

It could be a really convoluted way to collect insurance money, and that's why he's smiling.

And a "rouge" motorcycle - hilarious!

Rincon, the tactic is to run from the scene because fleeing a crime scene has lesser consequences, and has more plausible, though highly improbable, explanation, than, say, being under the influence of narcotics, alcohol or just plain stupidity.

"I panicked and didn't know what to do so...."

damned "take-no-responsibility" Americans. *shakes fist in the air*

I'm disappointed that Frank Chu apparently did not show up.

> Kids these days are taking the lessons of "Don't Get Caught" a little too far .

Actually I think it's more like 15 or 20% of the population taking the lesson of "don't get deported" in the interest of self-preservation.

I heard somewhere that 1/3 of the accidents in CA are hit and run.

I really hope the cops snare whoever did this, because it's a cymbol of the poor state of driving in this town.

Is this thing on?

Wsanders-
Almost correct - 1/3 of the car accidents in CA involve an uninsured or under-insured driver, not necessarily a hit-and-run.

As a matter of fact, I declined this coverage recently purchasing insurance for my motorcycle (don't look at me - it's black, not rouge), and had to sign a waiver acknowledging this due to CA law - pretty unsettling if you ask me.

This was the furthest thing from a hit and run accident that I've ever seen. The driver of the white SUV was standing on the sidewalk for quite some time. I saw him talking to the cops! And, the woman who was driving the tan SUV was quickly helped from her vehicle and sitting on the steps right next door! The drivers of both vehicles involved were talking to cops, firemen and paramedics for at least an hour (if not more) after the accident. Maybe whoever wrote this article doesn't know the meaning of hit and run!

Think of SFist as the old gossip lady of the village, not the portly town crier
