@joshb: Gray Davis was Lt. Governor just prior to his election in 1999.

As much as I and perhaps many of us, would like to believe, there is much more to California than just Bay Area/LA. With the exception of their highly publicised sex scandals, Gavin and Antonio are relatively unknown outside their respective cities.

I am not sure in which time warp Jerry Brown is "younger" than John Garamendi, but I do know that Brown's time has probably passed.

John Garamendi is hardly a "B List" candidate.

Is anyone as excited as I am for the NorCal/SoCal showdown that's about to happen with this race? NorCal is represented by the affable and attractive Gavin Newsom; SoCal by the affable and attractive Antonio Villaraigosa. I'm hoping SFist and LAist have dueling coverage that includes a lot of name calling and petty bickering.

John Garamendi was a great Insurance Commissioner. It's too bad he didn't try to unseat Arnold in 2006. The placeholder position of Lt Governor just cools everyone off... when was the last time a Lt Gov moved up to the real thing?

BTW, mariconsoy, how is it a waste of time? Whose time? Your time? I'm confused.

I hope he messes with the districts. Then the headline can read Garamendi Gerrimander!
