I live in District 6. I have to agree with PTFW because the level of incompetence from SF government is pervasive throughout the entire city. There are several reasons there is feces on the streets, and more homeless people, more danger in that district. For one, there are no public toilets anywhere. The shelters are overflowing, and all concentrated towards that area. I have seen police urge homeless people to go down to 5th street from downtown. District 6 is where the problems that Newsom doesn't have the leadership to solve are swept. Newsom is the tool. He and his overpaid PR team have trained you pups well. So the people pummeling PTFW and Daly, you can sit there and pat yourselves on the back for making what you think are intelligent sarcastic remarks, but from this vantage point, you look so damn ignorant.

KatyG, thanks for your substantive reply. My response is that everything you mentioned about filth in the streets is the responsibility of Mayor Newsom's Department of Public Works. Daly's results are in the thousands of units of affordable housing he's helped create. None of the rest of you responded to any of the points I made. I'm guessing this is largely because I hit the nail on the head with my comments. Deep down Daly haters really just dislike the poor and don't want to have to live in a city where they're forced to look at the tragic consequences of the American political and economic system that doesn't provide adequate health care, affordable housing, and a decent education for millions of its citizens. Just don't pretend that you dislike Daly because he twists a few arms now and then. For better or for worse, that's what politicians do. Do you think "the moderates" ie the corporatists don't twist arms in this town? Please! They don't just twist arms, they break 'em.

Pro, what has any of your post got to do with the original point of this thread, Daly's arm-twisting to other members of the political machine? And if he really is all that and a bag of chips, why is Sixth Street a cesspit? Why does Market Street stink of piss on a daily basis? Is it a progressive value to accept people living in literal filth in your district? Does that show he cares about the poor who live there? I don't care if he has worked his little butt off to try to get additional street cleaning, graffiti abatement, etc. Where *is* it? What are his results? If he's a fighter, then from my view he is losing the fight.

My hope is that a majority of American voters are tired of the politics of divisiveness. I'm certainly sick of it, and that's the primary reason I get so frustrated with most career politicians in San Francisco's City Hall and on the up the line. I hope that Barack Obama's campaign will inspire many young people who also believe that we're a lot stronger working together than apart to step up to the plate and run for political office. It is a thankless job, but we need folks who try to do the most good for the most number of people - not just focusing on personal agendas or causes. The so-called progressives in this town could learn a lot from Senator Obama's campaign about a message to unite voters. Yes, you've learned well from the Republicans that pointing at a particular group based on their sexual orientation, race, gender, or, in this town, socioeconomic status to blame the ills of everyone else is one way of winning elections - but its a disgusting way to win. I don't see a difference between the tactics of a Karl Rove and the the tactics of a so-called progressive when they both point at a particular group of people and say, "Those bastards are the reason the rest of us are having a hard time." Spineless. Let's hope Obama wins ... let's do what we can, like run for political office or volunteer for campaigns for those candidates who do promise to try to do the most good for the most people. You can blame Howard Dean and his 2003 primary campaign for me giving a damn.

To all you Daly haters: Do any of you actually do anything for this city and your fellow citizens? Seriously do you? Or are you the kind of people who only complain about how awful SF is while sitting on you ass in front of the computer whenever you're not working at your self-serving job for your soulless corporation. Daly does good, humane work in City Hall. Yes he's a hothead sometimes. No, he's not perfect. Yes he has an ego. Yes he hates the mayor. But if any of you haters actually followed his legislative record, you would know that he fights in City Hall for poor people and to keep our city racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse. He fights so working class families can continue to live here. Some of those families have been here for generations, paying their taxes and doing their part. A lot of us happen to think those folks deserve a place here even if they don't make six-figure salaries. Call us crazy. Fine. Daly's a hero to many people in this city. An imperfect one yes, but a hero nonetheless. I know that's really hard for all you haters to swallow, but it's true and that's why he's been re-elected twice despite downtown's gargantuan efforts to remove him. Which brings up an important point. To understand how effective Daly has been you only need to look at who opposes him in an election cycle. And believe me, the downtown elite who want him out don't give a shit about his ego and his personal skills. They hate his advocacy for the poor and working class. Daly works in government to help the people whom many of you just wish were out of sight and out of mind. Sorry this makes some of you so upset. Oh wait, I'm not sorry at all.

There was a time when SFist was at the cutting edge of local politics. Back then, its readership base was even progressive. Now SFist is about a month behind in news, politics, and critical thinking. I first posted this email in Fog City Journal about a month ago... I'd recommend any local progressives check out Fog City for local political coverage. They are at the top of the game these days, and their pictures are excellent. As for my "threats", I posted what I had to say on the internet. Ask Gavin or Nancy what they were saying to DCCC members. You think they are going to agree to this level of transparency? And if anyone could tell me how to disable that Blackberry message, I'd be much obliged.

Wow... I really don't see what the problem is. He outlines why he thinks this would be a problem and then goes on to state (and I certainly don't see it as threatening) that if someone votes for Wiener he will try to oppose them in the future. It's not a threat per se, it's a statement that he feels that anyone voting that way is not working towards accomplishing the same goals and he will actively try to have this represented through future endorsements. It might have read a little better and a bit less hostile if he'd kept that part out, but I don't see any problems with keeping it in.

Chris Daly's only reason for existence is to oppose everything Gavin Newsom does. If the ground were to open up and swallow Newsome whole, as I'm sure Daly prays for as he hooks himself up to his Thetan detector every night, he'd have no purpose for living anymore. Daly has no rational positive vision for San Francisco that is even remotely attainable (50% affordable housing? C'mon...) or acceptable to this city's population. Whenever he can't get what he wants he, and people like Peskin along with him, simply throw themselves like wrenches into the gears of the city in order to prevent any sort of work from getting done. Look, Newsom isn't great, but at a certain point, even San Franciscans get tired of all the dramatics, and whining and personal attacks. Seriously, it's sickening, and a lot of people think so. For someone who claims to be the one and only voice of "true progressives" in this city, he's really gone out of his way to prevent any kind of progress from getting made in San Francisco. Great job, douche bag! May the world remember you briefly for the meddling self-important bureaucrat that you are.
