You know how Board of Supes Prez Aaron Peskin was elected to the head of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee? Beating out former chair Scott Wiener? All because Chris Daly spammed voters with a threatening email? Well, here it is, complete with a menacing tone and a plan to take over the DCCC.
Oh, and it gets really good after the jump, which is where the threats begin to bloom most beautifully. Check it:

Subject: Scott
Hale, I've heard through the grapevine that you are considering supporting Scott for DCCC Chair over Aaron. I tried to contact you by phone but was not successful, so I am sending you this email.I can not stress enough what a nightmare it would be if this DCCC elected Scott as our Chair. I hope that you fully appreciate what this would do to reforms that you and I have discussed. Simply put, it would kill them before they even began. As a proxy for Leno/Newsom/Downtown, Scott would be in a position, through Committee assignments and agendizing, to squash any and all of our efforts to reform the Party.
I am very concerned that electing Scott Chair could compromise good progressive candidates for Supervisor this November. As Chair, Scott would be in position to influence close endorsement votes. I believe this would make it less likely that our candidates would win the endorsement of the Party. Even if our candidates are endorsed, Scott could stymie Party activities in support of them. Conversely, any bad Supe candidates (like Asha Safai in D 11), if endorsed, could be the beneficiaries of 3rd party donations to the Party controlled by the Chair (like that Lennar deal in the last cycle). In this way, they could effectively campaign beyond the spending caps, negating our system of public financing.
The November Board races are my top priority and were a major impetus for pulling together our slate, lining up endorsements, and then pushing resources into the slate cards. Between Aaron, Michael Bomstein, and I, we moved tens of thousands of dollars to promote our entire slate, while investing very little in promoting ourselves.
Finally, if Scott is elected Chair after all that work electing progressives to the DCCC, the unity that we've developed among progressives would be instantly lost. I, for one, have already committed to make it my personal mission to make sure that any members voting for Scott never receive the endorsement of the Guardian, Tenants Union, Sierra Club, and Milk Club in subsequent races. Meanwhile, I am committed to fielding a progressive slate for DCCC in 2 years and plan on investing significant time and resources into it. I hope that you decide to be with us by casting your first vote this session with Aaron.

First, oh my God, Daly is a BlackBery user. I would've pegged him for an iPhone fan. Strange.
Second, iIs this threatening? Yes. Yes, it is. (e.g., "I, for one, have already committed to make it my personal mission to make sure that any members voting for Scott never receive the endorsement of the Guardian, Tenants Union, Sierra Club, and Milk Club in subsequent races." Because: dude, really? Awesome. Love it.) But do you find it persuasive? Long-winded? Delightful? Discuss.
Altered image of Chris Daly speaking at a Free Tibet rally in San Francisco: Nick Gulotta.

Using [Email address redacted because some people cannot behave themselves. -- Brock] as his email address makes it sound like he has an unbelievable ego, but I guess it's just shorthand for "Supervisor." Either way, I'd reconsider.
Also, "In Struggle"?
Yes, absolutely. "In Struggle" so incredibly delish. You're reading it thinking, "'[Email address redacted because some people cannot behave themselves. -- Brock]'? Oh it just can't get any better than '[redacted]', can it?'"
He never disappoints.
"In struggle."
Lovely.
Remember this when you get a Democratic Party mailer this fall.
But he has SprintSpeed! Think of the product placement opportunities.
And when the actual members of the Guardian, Tenants Union, Sierra Club, and Milk Club refuse to kiss Chris' ass & do his bidding, what is he going to threaten *them* with?
Oh, yes, also, Chris, as an elected official and therefore as part of the Machine, is forbidden from using the phrase, "In struggle," as he is no longer struggling to have his position articulated.
I, for one, have already committed to make it my personal mission to vote for whoever is running against Chris Daly, and to encourage my friends, acquaintances, co-workers, restaurant servers, grocery checkers, people I meet on the street, people I step over heading to MUNI, and relatives to do the same.
In Superstruggle...
I love how the progressives, supposedly the champions of The People, are now the ones with heavy handed threats, using lies in their mail pieces and are using their elected positions to keep us regular people out of power in our local party.
Which would be fine if they could do something like fix MUNI or cut crime. But they don't.

KatyG, he will threaten them with sending out falsified endorsement letters over their name.
Man, what a slippery son-of-a-sleazebag. I feel sorry for the poor progressives that have to lower their eyes in shame and say, "Yes, Daly is a progressive." He's one of those critters who does more good for his opponents than for his own side.
Not to mention, he's a superdouche@dumbass.com.
come on, daly's not at all that bad. i mean, SF is a city that needs its extreme (not to mention thought-provoking) characters. daly fills that gap beautifully.
It's time to bring back Struggling Ed Jew - it can't get much worse, can it?
Chris Daly's only reason for existence is to oppose everything Gavin Newsom does. If the ground were to open up and swallow Newsome whole, as I'm sure Daly prays for as he hooks himself up to his Thetan detector every night, he'd have no purpose for living anymore. Daly has no rational positive vision for San Francisco that is even remotely attainable (50% affordable housing? C'mon...) or acceptable to this city's population. Whenever he can't get what he wants he, and people like Peskin along with him, simply throw themselves like wrenches into the gears of the city in order to prevent any sort of work from getting done. Look, Newsom isn't great, but at a certain point, even San Franciscans get tired of all the dramatics, and whining and personal attacks. Seriously, it's sickening, and a lot of people think so. For someone who claims to be the one and only voice of "true progressives" in this city, he's really gone out of his way to prevent any kind of progress from getting made in San Francisco. Great job, douche bag! May the world remember you briefly for the meddling self-important bureaucrat that you are.
Agendizing!
I, for one, have already committed to make it my personal mission to make sure that anyone who makes up a new word because they don't have the patience to stop and work out how to properly construct their sentences will never receive the endorsement of me or my pencil.
Thank god, Brock hasn't [redacted] SprintSpeed. Yet.
This is a sad commentary on the level of civic involvement and the level of discourse of voters these days. Any unqualified nut case may get elected if he can kiss enough ass or promise to act as a proxy for the DCCC Godfather in his or her elected role because such selling out will get a spot on the "progressive" voting slates? Pathetic.
Speaking of slates, don't forget about the one that seemed to indicate the Guardian endorsed Migden (they endorsed Leno). Trust?
http://www.sfbg.com/blogs/politics/2008/05/the_phoney_slate_card.html
Wow... I really don't see what the problem is. He outlines why he thinks this would be a problem and then goes on to state (and I certainly don't see it as threatening) that if someone votes for Wiener he will try to oppose them in the future. It's not a threat per se, it's a statement that he feels that anyone voting that way is not working towards accomplishing the same goals and he will actively try to have this represented through future endorsements.
It might have read a little better and a bit less hostile if he'd kept that part out, but I don't see any problems with keeping it in.
These people are the moderates in the November election for SF Supervisor. They are not connected to the so-called progressives:
D1 - Sue Lee
D3 - Lynn Jefferson
D4 - Carmen Chu
D7 - Sean Elsbernd
D11 - Asha Safai
Vote for these people if you live in their district.
Belgand: How can you say that's not a threat?
Here's what I want you to do. Here's what I'm going to do if you don't do it. Sounds pretty threaty to me.
Seems like we need guys like Daly in the US Congress. Instead, we have corporatist moderates like Pelosi, who don't push any buttons and don't get anything done.
Let's make sure Obama is elected and add to the Democratic "majority" (bunch of DINOs make them a so-called majority right now), then Nancy will be enabled to help the bread and butter Democratic Party issues.
SFMichael,
Are you actually suggesting people vote (i.e. take action) instead of complain? Curious.
There was a time when SFist was at the cutting edge of local politics. Back then, its readership base was even progressive.
Now SFist is about a month behind in news, politics, and critical thinking. I first posted this email in Fog City Journal about a month ago...
I'd recommend any local progressives check out Fog City for local political coverage. They are at the top of the game these days, and their pictures are excellent.
As for my "threats", I posted what I had to say on the internet. Ask Gavin or Nancy what they were saying to DCCC members. You think they are going to agree to this level of transparency?
And if anyone could tell me how to disable that Blackberry message, I'd be much obliged.
...and at one time certain city supervisors were relevant, not a benign sideshow spectacle.
Mr. De Mille, Chris is ready for his close-up.
Glad to see the editorial bias of SFist exposed. Brock Keeling, you're no Eve Batey.
sigh
Alas, I agree with you there, Chirs. (Along with many other things.) But who is? Batey is sublime and has no equals.
Hey it worked.
But it's just sad, though. Normally this thread might even be news: City Supervisor Gets into Pissing Match with Local Blog Editor.
But it's not. No one even blinks. It's just Chris Daly. Can you imagine Peskin or Ammiano being so juvenile?
*sigh*
At least you make me laugh, Superstruggle.
Oh Chris Daly, you big nerd. Don't diss my boy Brock. Or if you're going to, at least be funny.
And I think it's safe to say, this world can only handle one Eve Batey.
Also, I was at that goddamn meeting (bored, and texting Brock and Eve) and Mista Supervisor kept getting up and walking out of the room. I was waiting for him to threaten me, but I guess he was busy writing sassy messages on his communication device.
KatyG nailed it. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't owe Chris Daly a damn thing.
I have another blog you has-beens should be reading instead of this one. Check out http://chrisdalysucks.wordpress.com/ .
(Maybe they'll make another update soon?)
Oh no you didn't, Chris Daly. Excellent pictures? Really? Your comments here are just sad.
softunderbelly, you are my hero.
Maybe the readers were "progressive" until guys like Chris gave "progressive" an bad name?
Chris Daly, you, sir, are no Lloyd Bentsen.
First, oh my God, Daly is a BlackBery user. I would've pegged him for an iPhone fan. Strange.
The mayor has an iphone...'nuff said.
You have proclaimed yourself to be the standard bearer of the "True Progressives" of San Francisco, but your words and deeds have shown you to be just another simple man who's been given a position of responsibility that exceeds the capacity of your character to execute in good faith. When you read any kind of criticism or idea that doesn't quite mix with your interests, your little animal glands spurt little animal hormones that twist your stomach into a knot and you hit back, not with any competent debate over the ideals you hold, or your vision for the future of the city, but by attacking the person (or peoples) and deriding the forum itself as unfit and displaying unworthy opinions. The thing is, you're nothing new. There are people like you everywhere. People who form little tribes because their ideas are right and everyone else's are wrong. So what if most your ideas are outrageous or unpopular or unrealistic or actually act to the detriment of the very people you claim to champion, because you're the only one who really KNOWS what's best, right?. So if you can't get what you want you throw a little tantrum and try make sure that no one gets anything. You've got your little tribe and you've decided to call them the "True Progessives", but the truth is, you're just as petty and selfish as every other tribe out there, you just happen to be louder. It's become depressingly apparent how ready you are to use your position to cast the people of this city under the wheels for the sake of your own aggrandizement. Please stop. You wore out your welcome a long time ago.
Does anyone want to address Brock recycling a month-old story? How about what the "moderates" were doing behind closed doors? Anyone? Guess not.
Mr. Daly, that would bother this publishing professional at a personal level if SFist were a news site, which it is not. It's a local gossip and culture blog; the editors here are not obligated to hew to an editorial line, including timely reporting of events of interest.
(How ironic that I hold up as a defense a truth that I lambasted this site for months ago.)
God love you, Chris Daly. At least you're involved with your constituents. What better way to engage the community than debating comments on a gossip blog?
How much feces could Mr. Daly have scooped up in District 6 in the time he spent trying to prove to SFist that he's not as bad as everyone else?
Instead, he sat at the computer crafting his replies. Added benefit: his kids got to see him and think "Daddy's working!"
All I know is, I have found my new sign off.
But the feces make it a historic district, and prevent that awful gentrification. They're good for the district!
Wow. KatyG and I agree on something? The sky must be falling. Oh wait, no. It's Chris Daly.
To all you Daly haters:
Do any of you actually do anything for this city and your fellow citizens? Seriously do you? Or are you the kind of people who only complain about how awful SF is while sitting on you ass in front of the computer whenever you're not working at your self-serving job for your soulless corporation.
Daly does good, humane work in City Hall. Yes he's a hothead sometimes. No, he's not perfect. Yes he has an ego. Yes he hates the mayor.
But if any of you haters actually followed his legislative record, you would know that he fights in City Hall for poor people and to keep our city racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse.
He fights so working class families can continue to live here. Some of those families have been here for generations, paying their taxes and doing their part. A lot of us happen to think those folks deserve a place here even if they don't make six-figure salaries. Call us crazy. Fine.
Daly's a hero to many people in this city. An imperfect one yes, but a hero nonetheless. I know that's really hard for all you haters to swallow, but it's true and that's why he's been re-elected twice despite downtown's gargantuan efforts to remove him.
Which brings up an important point. To understand how effective Daly has been you only need to look at who opposes him in an election cycle. And believe me, the downtown elite who want him out don't give a shit about his ego and his personal skills. They hate his advocacy for the poor and working class.
Daly works in government to help the people whom many of you just wish were out of sight and out of mind. Sorry this makes some of you so upset.
Oh wait, I'm not sorry at all.
hooray! I knew I would get a laugh when I saw in the left side comments section:
ProtestTheFuckingWar on Chris Daly's Threatening Email to SFDCCC Members Revealed!
Thanks man!
I don't know about you guys, but I totally believe the word "hater" has a place in mature political discourse.
*nods*
My hope is that a majority of American voters are tired of the politics of divisiveness. I'm certainly sick of it, and that's the primary reason I get so frustrated with most career politicians in San Francisco's City Hall and on the up the line.
I hope that Barack Obama's campaign will inspire many young people who also believe that we're a lot stronger working together than apart to step up to the plate and run for political office. It is a thankless job, but we need folks who try to do the most good for the most number of people - not just focusing on personal agendas or causes.
The so-called progressives in this town could learn a lot from Senator Obama's campaign about a message to unite voters. Yes, you've learned well from the Republicans that pointing at a particular group based on their sexual orientation, race, gender, or, in this town, socioeconomic status to blame the ills of everyone else is one way of winning elections - but its a disgusting way to win. I don't see a difference between the tactics of a Karl Rove and the the tactics of a so-called progressive when they both point at a particular group of people and say, "Those bastards are the reason the rest of us are having a hard time." Spineless.
Let's hope Obama wins ... let's do what we can, like run for political office or volunteer for campaigns for those candidates who do promise to try to do the most good for the most people.
You can blame Howard Dean and his 2003 primary campaign for me giving a damn.
@protest...
Christ, what did Daly threaten YOU with??
hooray! I knew I would get a laugh when I saw in the left side comments section:
ProtestTheFuckingWar on Chris Daly's Threatening Email to SFDCCC Members Revealed!
I'm just surprised he didn't conclude it with "In Struggle" at which point he and Daly would hold hands and sing "The Internationale" with their eyes closed and then repair to the Utah for cocktails
Pro, what has any of your post got to do with the original point of this thread, Daly's arm-twisting to other members of the political machine?
And if he really is all that and a bag of chips, why is Sixth Street a cesspit? Why does Market Street stink of piss on a daily basis? Is it a progressive value to accept people living in literal filth in your district? Does that show he cares about the poor who live there? I don't care if he has worked his little butt off to try to get additional street cleaning, graffiti abatement, etc. Where *is* it? What are his results?
If he's a fighter, then from my view he is losing the fight.
Remember: Daly is not on the ballot this November, but his cronies are, the same ones who unceremoniously dumped Scott Weiner from the DCCC.
One thing to remember: whomever the DCCC supports this November, vote for anyone else.
I want to meet this person they refer to as "downtown", and shake his or her hand.
Once again, Chris you show what a horse's ass you really are. Don't you have a day job that pays you a lot of money that you should be working on instead of acting like an ass on SFist?
You do, but you choose to be a jerk instead, trolling forums and blogs. Thanks for not fixing MUNI, not helping reduce crime, or do anything that matters to regular San Franciscans. Take your failwhale policies elsewhere, Daly!
PS: how is posting Chris Daly's lame spam emails and press releases "cutting edge?" just asking!
Something tells me that despite all this angry backlash against regressive "progressives" that are choking any progress in this City, come November thousands will be duped by DCCC and Guardian endorsements and elect progressive cronies back to the Board. Sad.
People vote the DCCC cronies because they get a ballot that says "San Francisco Democratic Party." And like good Democrats, they pull the machine lever (or do the optical scan equivalent).
KatyG, thanks for your substantive reply. My response is that everything you mentioned about filth in the streets is the responsibility of Mayor Newsom's Department of Public Works. Daly's results are in the thousands of units of affordable housing he's helped create.
None of the rest of you responded to any of the points I made. I'm guessing this is largely because I hit the nail on the head with my comments.
Deep down Daly haters really just dislike the poor and don't want to have to live in a city where they're forced to look at the tragic consequences of the American political and economic system that doesn't provide adequate health care, affordable housing, and a decent education for millions of its citizens.
Just don't pretend that you dislike Daly because he twists a few arms now and then. For better or for worse, that's what politicians do. Do you think "the moderates" ie the corporatists don't twist arms in this town? Please! They don't just twist arms, they break 'em.
Hey, keep it coming, PTFW, your stuff is gold. Gold!!
PTFW, please keep telling me what I really feel deep down. You know me so well!
PTFW, thanks for telling me how I really feel. Please, tell me more!
Bureaucratic blame-shifting. If a supervisor wants something done or not done in her/his district, what is it to step on some toes and act? Especially when it is in the interests of the constituents? Or is Mr. Daly going to start in on how sacred “the process” is?
There's no better way to protest the fucking war than to write paragraph after paragraph after paragraph after paragraph on a chatty local blog.
Yours in snuggle,
SFist_Matt
... supersnuggle ...
like i said. Nail squarely on the head.
Katy G, you tell me. Is anyone that answers to newsom going to do one thing that Daly asks him to?
you vapid fools prove me point with your every post
you say vapid like it's a bad thing.
yes brock i did.
When did this become a gossip blog!?! I read it for the news. Frankly the level of gossip and dickishness that Brock adds to it most of the time is my biggest dislike.
I'm not trying to just strike up controversy, but I swear, the NIMBY, conservative, yuppie quotient of the blog just seems to get worse and worse.
NIMBY - Not In My Back Yard:
Human Feces
Used Syringes
Chris Daly's woefully small tool.
I live in District 6. I have to agree with PTFW because the level of incompetence from SF government is pervasive throughout the entire city. There are several reasons there is feces on the streets, and more homeless people, more danger in that district. For one, there are no public toilets anywhere. The shelters are overflowing, and all concentrated towards that area. I have seen police urge homeless people to go down to 5th street from downtown. District 6 is where the problems that Newsom doesn't have the leadership to solve are swept. Newsom is the tool. He and his overpaid PR team have trained you pups well.
So the people pummeling PTFW and Daly, you can sit there and pat yourselves on the back for making what you think are intelligent sarcastic remarks, but from this vantage point, you look so damn ignorant.
yay. we got the last word!
Who is "we"?
