As we near the Olympics it seems fitting to take stock of where the Bay Area stands relative to other countries. First we took on the French and their wine, and won. Now the Bay Area is making an attack on the Swiss and their chocolate. The newest contender on our team is Coco-Luxe, which opens today. It’s an artesian chocolate shop located at the corner of Haight and Cole. In the midst of getting ready for today’s Grand Opening Stephanie Marcon answered a few questions about two of our favorite topics: Chocolate and the Bay Area.
What is your favorite type of chocolate?
It depends on my mood
What is it like to be a chocolatier in the Bay Area?
Great, a lot of support from the community and nice because people come here to explore chocolate.
What should people expect from Coco-Luxe?
Americana in fine chocolate
Is there such a thing as bad chocolate?
Yes.
If you were going to take a chocolate tour of the world, where would you go?
I like happenstance, and finding things by chance so I would not plan a trip but just pick place I want to go to and look to see if they have chocolate shops there, you never know what crazy local flavor combinations you may find.
Coco-Luxe opens today 11 am- 5 pm. 1673 Haight Street.

A hottie who makes chocolate. She may well be the perfect woman.
Gav as favorite politician past or present lost it for me. Do we really need another overprice chocolate place, especially on Haight?
I'd much rather have an overpriced chocolate store than a drug store. I'm so glad Haight Natural Foods closed too, that place was such a drag! Hopefully it will be replaced by a wine bar, or maybe a shoe store, the Haight is running short on those these days.
The people demand more places to buy shoes and bongs.
I swung by there today after reading about it here. Really friendly people and some tasty chocolate beverages. I had the chocolate pudding, which is actually a drink, but was rich enough to double as a meal. Good stuff.
=v= I think I'm in love, but that may well be the chocolate talking.
