BREAKING NEWS: SFPD Bomb Squad at 39th Avenue

According to SFist reader Salty, as of 8:30 p.m. the SFPD bomb squad has been stationed "[m]idway down the 1600 block, on the west side" of 39th Avenue (i.e., between Lawton and Moraga.) "Fire Chief on the scene. Ambulance still on scene. SFPD still on the scene. Bomb Squad Truck still on the scene." No word yet on any evacuations. Probably another stupid mortar from the war between the states, or whatever. Anyway, anyone in the area know what's up? Let us know in the comments. And be careful not to blow up. UPDATE: No ka-boom. Squad and sirens left a little before 9:40 p.m.

There's life past 19th Ave? Wacky.

No idea if it was related, but from rooftop at 9th Ave. & Irving, ~10:30 PM heard a loud boom from the west. Seemed like a fair sized blast; guessed it was somebody lighting off the last of their July 4th M1000 stash from 10-15 blocks away, but could have been something bigger, further off.

I live at 28th and Vicente and we also heard the ~10:30 blast. Was pretty loud here, so based on the above, I guess it was indeed a fairly big explosion.

Geez, that blast was so loud it shook my house, nine blocks away. Doesn't anyone know what it was?

I was crossing the bridge & driving down 19th at ~1:45 last night, saw some big fireworks going off west of 19th in the richmond, maybe the park. Seemed odd so late on a thursday night...

Out here at the edge of the world, we'll be hearing fireworks for at least another month.

Life? Yes, we even know how to read and operate computers. :)
According to the Taraval Station daily email:
6:12 pm 1600 block of 39th Avenue
Found hand grenade/detonated at beach by SFPD EOD unit

I bet they threw it into the ocean for kicks. But seriously, who loses a hand grenade? And really who has a live hand grenade in the city to begin with?
