Being a "queen with an Audi" in the Lower Haight, I can assure you that not all of us are "hysterical," but gay-bashing is always fun, isn't it?

This photograph was taken on Haight, between Steiner and Fillmore, so no where near Cha-Cha-Cha, Hobson's etc. (Upper Haight / Haight Ashbury / Ashbury Heights). Perhaps it was the Peacock Lounge or the hair burner on the corner or the Real Estate office or RNM.

Oh Tweety, ya got me. Truth be told, I have been wanting to use my "Hysterical queen locked out of Audi" joke for a few weeks now, saw an Audi and ran with it.

I meant to say the Aardvark or the nice bathroom at Hobson's. Or the open grave pit and Santeria temple underneath the bar at Cha-Cha-Cha.

Man, has this place become ultra-anal lately or what! Too many out of work, new age massage therapists in too small an area all losing their "center" at the same time.

A couple of years ago, Trax on Haight Street caught fire. Two or three trucks showed up about two minutes after we all called 911 and they had the fire out before too much damage was done to it or the surrounding buildings, so I'm all for firetrucks traveling like MUNI: in packs.

Actually plumpy, all first responders respond to 911 calls - even if there is no fire, firemen respond to calls as well as police (for example) because it just makes sense. Who knows what they're going to find when they get there?

@travin: Yeah, that makes sense. It's a dense area full of old buildings just ready to go up in flames. But I'm just wondering if lower Haight (and any other dense area, i.e. most of northern SF) might not warrant the same response? All I'm saying is that a few fire trucks doesn't necessarily mean there's actually a fire. This used to be a monthly sight outside my apartment and it was never anything worth discussing.

Hi RobinSF! Do you actually live in San Francisco? If you did, then I am sure you would know that Worn Out West is actually in Eureka Valley / The Castro and not in the Lower Haight.

Now, on the the topic at hand. Those fire trucks are usually parked out front of Bean There, so this is quite curious. Is the Vapor Room on fire?!?!?

@plumpy from my understanding, and this comes from info having survived a four alarm fire on nob hill, in that area any credible fire threat is routinely called as 2 alarms, meaning 2 ladder trucks, 1 smaller truck and often the chief's car and an ambulance.

Isn't this just how firetrucks in San Francisco get dispatched? I haven't really seen any since I moved, but when I lived in Nob Hill, they pretty much always showed up in packs of four. I think the assumption was that if there actually is a fire, they better make sure we get it out before it spreads to other buildings.

Of the five or six times they showed up, there was never once a fire, leading to a lot of disappointed firefighters having to recoil all their hose. I almost felt bad for them and wished that maybe once it would actually be a huge blaze.
