SFist Tonight

MUSIC: The Boiling Suns (east coast transplants/chainsaw rock), Untrust Us (indie/shoegaze), and Whiskey Rebellion (brilliantly genre-free, or let's assume) perform tonight in the Outer Mission. Also, well drinks and pints at the show's venue are a mere $3.00 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Holy smokes!

8 p.m. // El Rio (3158 Mission) // free

EXHIBITION: Ancient Chinese secret, huh? Well, figure out what said secret is at the opening ceremony of the "Chinese Puzzles Exhibition," an exhibition of brain benders (e.g., tangrams, etc.) that will coincide with the Beijing Olympic Games. (Obligatory political aside: Free Tibet! Save Darfur!) The show, it seems, will "give visitors a unique opportunity to learn about these traditional 'intelligence games' and challenge their hands and mind by playing with them." Also, drinks and other assorted refreshments will be served.

6:00 - 8:30 p.m. // 750 Kearny Street, Third Floor (inside the Hilton Hotel) // free

FILM: Works from the 48 Hour Film Project, in which teams of filmmakers are assigned a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue, and have 48 whole hours to come up with some sort of film containing said elements, screens tonight. Read more about it here.

7 p.m., 9:30 // Roxie New College Film Center (3117 - 16th Street) // $9

el Rio isn't in the Outer Mission, it's in the outer part of the just the regular Mission. Don't be afraid to cross 24th Street, but do refrain from skinny jeans with flat butts. Thanks!
