MUSIC: Don't be put off by the New York Times' recent article that christened this place a hipster enclave, Amnesia is a welcoming and self-conscious-free zone. Don't believe us? Check out tonight's bluegrass bash featuring Homespun Rowdy and the Pick. Monday nights here are always loads of fun.

7:30 p.m. // Amnesia (853 Valencia) // free

FILM: Standard Operating Procedure (2008) screens at the Red Vic. It's about... well, it's more anti-war stuff that, oddly enough, feeds from the tit of the war machine. Anyway, it's about war being bad, or something like that.

7 p, 9:25 // Red Vic (1727 Haight) // 8.50

Amnesia is a welcoming and self-conscious-fee zone

You have to pay to be self-conscious at Amnesia? Really? Is this some sort of cover charge? Can I loiter out front and be self-conscious on the street? How about Casanova?

Or El Rio, where the drinks are cheap tonight!!!

or check out DJ jackallen at Beauty Bar, 19th and mish.

the beauty bar's fifteen minutes were up long ago. if the coke cartels of juarez had any class, they'd briefly put a hold on the market and allow our long national nightmare of over-sized sunglasses and shakily applied lipstick (by art-school kids, no less) to pass.
