I would rather read the care instructions to a pair of pants than the Examiner. If it shows up again at my house after requesting to be removed twice I'm taking the issue to small claims court.

Stop delivering to people unless they specifically request delivery. It's that simple. Anything else is spam designed to artificially inflate circulation numbers and blatant advertising.

That said, there are two things I like about the Examiner: 1) tabloid size makes it a hell of a lot easier to read... I don't know why anyone would ever print something in broadsheet, it's ludicrous and 2) the lack of jumps in stories makes it a lot more pleasant to read and easier to read it straight through. I really loathe it when newspapers use jumps and even more when magazines do it.

MannyOrtez: Yep. Our local media is in a sad, sad state. Doesn't it make the unread deliveries any less wasteful tho.

@ MannyOrtez: THANK YOU.

The Examiner will be delivering Thursday through Sunday only. And wasn't it only last weekend that they launched their Sunday edition? Why bother if they're on their way out? Just sayin'. Last gasp, perhaps, or investing in the future. I hope, for the sake of the City, the latter.

Yes, the Chronicle is pathetic and the Examiner is fluff, but I fear the day San Francisco doesn't have a printed daily. Stop bashing print journalism. It's a tired theme.

On the bright side, Examiner.com is testing out a new method of providing hyper-local information sharing called "Examiners." While not the same company as "The Examiner," I believe they have the same parent company. I know about this because I'm one of the folks they've invited to submit my writing about Rincon Hill neighborhood and nearby area events and news. They somehow ran across my personal blog about Rincon Hill, and shot me an email a couple of weeks ago. Learn more at http://www.examiner.com/San_Francisco-Examiners.html

Check out my Rincon Hill Examiner page ... I created a forwarding domain at http://www.SFRinconHill.com

FYI people: the death of local journalism is NOT a Good Thing. For anybody. Direct your ire towards Dan Walters, please, not the Merry Band of poorly paid 20 and 30 somethings putting out a paper.

I like the new online copies of The Examiner ... now I don't have to stress about the recycling vultures grabbing the stack from my corner machine before I roll out of bed on the weekend to get a copy.

that's the prob -- boxes won't work; delivery is a pain in everyone's butt and makes us look like an advertising circular. top of that someone just emailed me and called me a "pirate" because of something i just wrote. arrr!

it's nothing personal silly! It's just that every other free/weekly paper refrains from littering our doorsteps - so why can't the Ex? The problem is if we have to pick it up form a box we won't. And your advertisers know that. If it's any consolation the Chron is going out of print soon too.
Thank god for the Grey Lady.

I didn't think you suck, but if you don't start delivering M-W to my doorstep, I will have to reconsider my opinion.

We haven't had the Examiner delivered anywhere in our neighborhood for the last week and a half.

I'm one of the dorks who like to read through this sub-par rag while eating breakfast and I'll admit I'm sorry to see delivery stop. It's not like I'm going to make an effort to go get a copy from a newstand pre-coffee, and I'm sure I'm not alone, so I think it's a nail in the coffin.

While it's certainly good news I still won't be happy until it's actually illegal for them to delivery to homes without requesting delivery. It's simply spam otherwise. Except, of course, that it litters our streets rather than being whisked magically away by filters.

Of course, after they started doing Sundays a week ago and I called them that same morning to get rid of the damn thing they still managed to delivery another one this past weekend. Even though we need a law against this just so nobody else ever tries to do it we certainly can't trust them to just not do it on their own.
