this is too funny!!! First, I agree with Elizabeth - 85 in SF would have all our heaters going full blast! Replace windows? can you share that tip with my (cheap) landlords? I think most of mine are original 1909 windows. Dish washers, washing machines & dryers...um - most apartments in SF don't have these modern marvels!

Apparently the windows thing isn't really what to fix, it's the insulation that makes a much bigger difference than windows.

Nothing I love better than wealthy people/celebrities, telling "the little people" how to pitch in and save energy. From their 3,000 sf homes while they fly back and forth every week on jets. I like her in general. But until she's living in a 900 sf apartment with no air conditioning, relying solely on public transportation, her feet, or a bike, she (and Al Gore, for that matter) can kiss my ass.

Here's an analogy to Bab's suggestions. I grew up in Arizona where we were told not to waste water, don't flush every time, plant indigenous plants that don't need water, reuse bath water, etc. Only problem, 35 golf courses now in Tucson alone, and every house has a pool, and misting takes place in outdoor fancy places constantly. Until the big changes are made, I'm flushing my toilet and leaving my light on. I'm so sick of politicians treating us like idiots.
