You know what would be even funnier? If YourMom69 not only got ticketed for crossing at 16th and Mission on foot against a red hand signal at 11 p.m., but the responding officer missed about 1,000 hand-to-hand drug sales while citing him. Oh wait, that probably is what happened. Anyway, bikers shouldn't bike on the sidewalk, but sometimes it's necessary to avoid danger or get from one place to another without losing momentum, like if there's a turning car blocking the intersection and you need to get to the other side.

As much as we'd like to complain, the police have to do what they're told. Besides it is annoying when a bike rides on sidewalk.

I was riding my bike past this guy, and I overheard that the ticket was indeed for riding on the sidewalk. I don't think cyclists should ride on sidewalks, but I don't think they should be ticketed for it either -- that sidewalk was completely empty at 8 am. I got a ticket for crossing the intersection at 16th and Mission on foot against a red hand signal at 11 pm at night -- as if there were no worse crimes going on in that vicinity at that time of night!

There is also a frenzy against jay walking in the Mission. Just days ago while shopping on Mission Street ... several times in a matter of an hour we witnessed people being issued tickets for jaywalking. The City, we were told, is desperate for an infusion of cash.

@ejcsanfran: Oddly enough, I was just advocating such broomstick action yesterday. It makes all cyclists look bad. And if one cyclist is on the sidewalk, everyone is going to bitch (rightfully so) about that, and forget that 90% of cyclists ride courteously. OK, maybe 75%.

Every time I see a cyclist on the sidewalk, I wish I had a broomstick to jam in between the spokes... And, BTW, I commute by bike every day... and I generally hate cyclists, pedestrians and motorists equally. After all, they are all people - who are the absolute worst.

Maybe he blew the light. Or he was riding a fixie and couldn't stop. He SHOULD get a talking to for no helmet. Sadly that's not illegal if you're over 18, but it should be. Or it could have been a DUI.

It's the fashion police. San Francisco Civil Code 7715.10., section 54 articulates no hipster may be in excess of 3 hoary cliches when present in the Mission district. Operation of a fixed-gear bicycle? Looks like it. Too-tight pants? Check. Horrible shirt/jacket combo? Check. Is that a beard? That's a $85 fine there, Che. Community service if you're caught sporting American Apparel.
