Recently, JPL did a Second Life event with footage for the landing of the Phoenix on Mars. So there's precedent. But don't think this is novel. I can remember unofficial NASA events with still pictures (no live streaming video) on virtual world chats (such as The Palace and Alpha Worlds) in the '90s.
