Shooting at 20th Street & Mission Outside Ritmo Latino?

Following last night's stab/shoot, this most recent incident happened this afternoon in the Mission. According to SFist reader choadrocker, there is"a shitload of blood in front of ritmo latino. this is noonish on friday. looks like another shooting or knifing..."
Yikes. Stay tuned.
Update 1: Another scene-of-the-crime photo waits after the jump.
Update 2: Looks like City can add yet another murder to its growing list. According to SF Sgt. Neville Gittens, the victim was "standing on the sidewalk, a guy walks up and shoots him" in broad daylight. Jesus Christ. Awful. The the Gate says that the unidentified victim died at SF General late this afternoon.

I think that's like the third or fourth shooting within a block of that intersection in the past 6 months, not including the stabbings yesterday.
I don't know what's up. Usually by now all the gang tension is spent after the whole yearly fireworks black market thing. Maybe they didn't make much money this year and the due to tighter restrictions their suffering from copus interuptus.
The Mission Police Station's 4 blocks away. What do you supposed the district station deterrent radius is? 1 block? 2 blocks? 0.5 blocks?
Line of sight.
Yay! I can see my house in these photos!
Oh, crap.
You can get away with anything in this city.
ihartsf: As my boyfriend always says, you can do anything illegal near a police station, but not near a donut shop.
When you know most of the law-abiding folks are not armed, yeah ... you pretty much can do what you want here.
This comes by word of mouth from a friend who works right there, apparently two guys with bandannas covering their faces walked up and shot a guy in the head with a sawed off shotgun. If this is true, sounds like a gang hit.
god damn it i was walking by there just the other day ..
makes me want to rethink wishing i lived in SF (sj is boring but safe)
The Police Station has no apparent effect on crime in the Mission. People have been killed right in front of it before.
I had just ridden over on my bike to check out the AT&T store (iPhone mania) and then there was a massive bang. People started yelling, "He has a shotgun".
A lot of people began to scatter into stores, but also a bunch of men began to run the hell out of the area, they looked like they were involved.
Police on motorcycles showed up within about 2 to 3 min. Then the whole area was closed off within about 10 min.
I always want to go in Ritmo and check out the Mexican metal section. I'm intimidated
I'm wondering if this shooting was a retribution for yesterday's stabbings on the same corner.
Today there's an alter of flowers and candles. Local shops say business is down - like they need that.
HOLY CRAP I buy my smack there! That could have been me!
I buy BBQ there, same thing really.
Dear San Francisco - retire your old cops and hire a whole lot of new ones.
Before I moved to California I *never* would have said, "we need more cops." Cos we have plenty of them back on the East Coast. Now I live on the very same block as the photos above. That's 4 blocks from the 2nd stinkiest part of town, the 16th/Mission area, which is only trumped by the Civic Center section of Market St.
Continual foot patrols and cruiser patrols is really needed in the lower Mission. But not by the lumpy old bastards who are the bane of law and order on the SFPD, but by new cops who give a shit. City government, it's really cool that you are all progressive and can make the rich liberals happy with your environmentally- and gay-friendly policies. But that doesn't help the people who live in dirty, violent sections of the city. Let's put first things first, please, and deal with civic needs before we deal with cultural "wants".
