CoCo Times, What Are You Thinking?

Oh this blows. One of our fave local corporate (yes, Jackson, it still sucks) bloggers just got the boot. According to a colleague's tweet, Dino-Ray Ramos was laid off this afternoon.

We're not going to bother to comment on the state of the industry, because it's all been said, again and again. We understand that staff cuts are necessary, but where's the wisdom in cutting the freshest voices in your organization? We love you, Dino-Ray, and are rooting for your safe landing. Until then, PPQ is on us, just name the day.

Any word on additional cuts at the Times or elsewhere? If so, let's hear it in the comments.

It's a bloodbath at all the Media News Group papers.

From the East Bay ANG group (Contra Costa
Times, Oakland Tribune and so on):

Dave Del Grande
Eric Gilmore
Geoff Lepper
Tim Simmers
Bill Soliday
Sara Steffens
...and about 22 others.

On the peninsula, Palo Alto Daily News bid adieu to:

Youming Cate
Tad Cronn
Tim Willis

By what I'm certain was sheer coincidence, many of the EBANG gang were organizers of the very recent, very narrow but ultimately successful, drive to bring the union into that newsroom.

Transportation writer and "Capricious Commuter" blogger Erik Nelson chose to leave in order to save another worker's job.

I haven't seen anyone read a newspaper in years, so this isn't much of a surprise.

I like Dino-Ray!! Can he start a non-MNG blog for me to read in the meantime??
