Mayor Gavin Newsom's chief of staff Quits

All around nice guy Phil Ginsburg, Maor Gavin Newsom's chief of staff, turned in his letter of resignation today. This makes the second CoS to resign since Newsom has been in office. (Steve Kawa being the first.) But why did Ginsburg quit, you ask? Well, according the the Chronicle, Ginsburg "is stepping down to spend more time with his family." Which? Is such bullshit. (Please tell us the real reason in the comments, folks!) Anyway, Trent Rhorer, Newsom's go-to man on homelessness, will takeover the job for now.

Isn't it obvious?

Newsom slept with his wife/girlfriend/mother/sister/tranny/pet iguana/all of the above.

Fish in a barrel.

The wife/girlfriend/mother/sister/tranny/pet iguana theory does hold a certain plausibility.

But my guess is that this has less to do with "scandal" and more to do with Newsom's looming primary battle. Ginsburg wasn't wartime consiligere. And by all accounts, he's a pretty decent person.

So he was probably ill-suited as Gavin's point man for the next few years, where the stated agenda is to sacrifice SF policy for the sake of statewide politics.

Word is that Ginsberg didn't suffer carreerist City Hall types all that gladly. So when it becomes bleedingly obvious you're working for one, the thing to do is resign.

Either that, or he found Gavin's coke-spoon. Again.
