Exceptionally entertaining commentary, folks. Meanwhile, I'd heard of Ms. Spotswood long ago but somehow never actually experienced the over-the-top-snarky hilarity that is her. Why din't y'all TELL me? For fuck's sake, I used to think I was remotely clued.

Katy G was being racist? That's a stretch. For years, I worked as a bartender for @ Network/McAfee Stadium during many, many Raider games, right above the black hole. I can tell you right now that any assumption that Raider Fan X is of African-american decent does not ipso facto constitute racism. Look around the stadium. The audience tends to reflect the city's demographics. Oakland is 38% black, its largest ethnic group --as most Bayareans are peripherally aware. So uh, yeah, "Raider Fan = probably black" doesn't quite make her the GrandWizard. Although I will concede that in SF, odds are that Raider Fan X is hispanic. ... but it is true that all Raider fans have AIDS. So there's that.

:) Nothing personal Beth, but you were kinda asking for it (the comment, not an AIDS rape baby) with the OMG-he-must-be-following-me thing...as for forgetting the "a" at the end, I pretty much meant anywhere that has the word "Marin" in it, meaning that "Marina" is naturally included. So, since we cleared that up, now will you invite me over for highballs and service worker abuse? :D

You're both right. I would submit that a writer (particularly a blogger) may be both vacuous AND awesome, (see Warhol, Andy) and that the terms are not mutually exclusive. "Fluff" is very much a quality of the oeuvre d'Spotswood. It's overt. Hell, there's even a plea to be taken trivially on her masthead. You can't get away with "AIDS rape baby" if you're solemn about it.
