Your Barry Zito Update: The Situation Is Not Improving

zito_fail.jpgFelt it was our duty to give you a quick update on the struggles of the San Francisco Giants' starting pitcher Barry Zito -- he of the 3-12 record for the 2008 season and the seven-year, $126 million dollar contract.

[Wince.]

So, here's what juuust happened tonight for Zito in the first inning against those danged Los Angeles Dodgers:

First batter: RF Matt Kemp smashed a ground-rule double that was 'bout a foot shy of clearing the wall and got corralled over the fence by a foolish fan.

Second batter: LF Andre Ethier doubled to drive in Kemp.

[Sigh.]

UPDATE! = Holy crap, Zito recovered from his rocky start to strikeout 10 (his highest amount as a Giant), and last seven innings. Then the Giants ground out some actual run support (I know!!!), keyed by a Randy Winn 2-out 2-strike chopper that scurried through the center of the Dodger infield. In the 8th/9th, tattooed Giants closer Brian Wilson slammed the door, reaching 100 MPH on his fastball in the process. Well, hell-yeah! What do y' know! A rousing win. And to think that the game started so ickily... it feels good to be proven wrong!

bad first inning, but to be fair, he had a good 2nd and 3rd. Still to early to call it a good game from Zito though. Tim kept his game alive with a key base hit against the cubs. Zito strikes out and the giants leave the bases loaded while scoring 0.

Sometimes I feel bad for the guy, since the giants never score when he pitches... but he doesn't exactly inspire the dugout with his play either.

@scopa[1]

I'm watchin' the game and eating Indian food.

Indeed, the Giants just aren't scoring at all this year. No run support. I worry about Matt Cain's mental stability.

Yeah, poor Zito. He was brought in to be Cy Young-winning caliber talent, but o'course on one arm a team cannot ride. I feel bad for the dude too, but at least (as a couple blogs have mentioned lately) he's not playing in New York or Boston or any other market that's rougher on their pro players.

I'd like to see him succeed. Not sure why he's had such struggles in terms of his own pitching "stuff."

Opinions on that?

Oh, snap!

I post to speak of his continuing downturn and suddenly he's got 8 strikeouts after the 5th!

C'mon, run support...

An exorcism is in order. If every girl he has played
sends a bad vibe his way..... this guy is in deep doodoo.

7IP, 2ER.

That aint actually so bad.

@ cablecarsam

Yup. Exorcisms plural might be in order for that kinda karma.

@ Sniffy

Yeah, he's doing mighty-fine now after that ignominious start. 10 Ks!

Wow, now THERE is some run support! :) Maybe Zito gets a win? We'll see what the bullpen can deliver the rest of the game.

:o

Run support!! Wow. Man; they had to work for that! Bless your heart, Randy Winn.

Boy, do I ever stand corrected... the situation is certainly improving! :)

Sweet. awesome comeback for the giants. Good game from Zito, and Wilson is the shit. I love that we have a closer that comes out looking like an MMA fighter, and then throws 100mph fastballs.

Most definitely. He's the anti-Benitez. It's awesome.

$126 million.

Is. A lot.

Of money.

@Generic

Yup 126 mil is a lot of money!!!! Zito should have to take 26 milion and send out stimulus checks to all the Giants fans so they keep buying season tickets and his rotting memoribilia.
What say?

It's a trap to lure you back in to caring!

And don't forget, he's "on pace" to finish 8-20!

Good job this game, but, let's see some consistency

Oops, sorry, thought he was 4-10 not 4-12, so on pace for 8 and 24!
