Further on from that, since the Irish Construction Mafia causes primarily financial problems, that they can be considered "white collar illegals?" That's a pretty good segue "what" used up there. 80% of arrestees were MS-13, and investigators "estimate" (pull a guess out of their ass) that 90% of MS-13s are illegal. Sounds like overlap, doesn't it? Well, except we don't get to know what proportion the 80% are to the total size of the gang. I mean, the investigators feel free to invent one number, why not take it all the way?

This is from Virginia, but I couldn't find any SF stats: "Of the 341 gang members arrested by ICE in the state between February 2005 and September 2007, almost 80 percent were members of MS-13, the study found. "Many Mara Salvatrucha gang members from the Los Angeles area have been deported either because of their illegal status in the United States, or for committing crimes as non-citizens, or both. As a result of these deportations, members of MS-13 have recruited more members in their home countries." In fact, most MS-13 are recruited right here in the US and are US citizen. Most are young adults who were born here. Their parents may (or may not) have been, but they were.

The majority of MS-13 members are in the country illegally. Is that racist to say or something? Nobody's saying that most people here illegally are MS-13 members. We're just saying that MS-13 gets a lot of friggin' recruits from El Salvador, and it's not through the standard immigration process. Given how involved they are in smuggling people across the border, is it a big surprise? Hell, it's not even a policy recommendation. Maybe border policy is actually strengthening MS-13 by giving them that industry, I don't know.

I never said there weren't plenty of US citizens willing to murder, etc. But when the paper says "the guy is here without documentation" and spysea points out that this means the guy broke another law, in addition to murdering a carload of people, I don't see why everyone gets so huffy about it and calls it "wildly unfair". the fact is, when you're standing in a courtroom and see a bunch of people brought in, the ones fitting this guy's profile are usually here illegally. that may not be PC to say, but it's a fact. Of course, those men are usually surrounded by plenty of US citizens, but the fact remains that a person willing to murder won't mind breaking one other tiny law, e.g., coming here without going through the legal process. All I was pointing out was that if they don't have a problem killing someone, they don't have a problem crossing the border illegally. I couldn't care less about immigration, quite frankly. As far as I'm concerned they could open up the borders tomorrow, provided of course, other countries provide us the same courtesy.

bluecanary - there are plenty of US born and bred who have absolutely no compunction about murdering someone/running drugs/gangbanging - so I don't really see why their immigration status is an issue. Unless you are suggesting that there aren't plenty of USA citizens who do these dastardly things.

"wildly unfair." Unless you've worked in the criminal field, and thus know that 90% of the criminals from that particular group brought in are in fact illegal. Perhaps not every illegal is a criminal (as far as crime-crime is concerned), but most criminals appear to be illegal.
