Single point of failure = big problems.

The 100-year old subway in NY is more reliable because when there is a problem trains can go around on the express tracks. if you happen to be at a local station near the stalled train, you are hosed but the locals can go around the problem and serve the other stations.

Muni Metro is what, 27 years old, and they STILL can't turn trains around?!

The switches at Embarcadero are cursed, CURSED I say!

The ongoing mess was totally unrelieved by the fact that the outbound J line was blocked for 10 minutes by a school bus that was double parked in front of the Everett Middle School at noon. They were letting the kids out early (presumably for the end of the school year), but they didn't park the buses in the "no parking" zone set aside for them -- even though they were empty! Muni driver just sat there and waited, and the SFPD officer who was sitting in the police van at the scene was clearly too busy reading his coupon clipper and talking on his cell phone to do anything to keep shit moving. Do all of the city's agencies just hate each other? Freakin' ridiculous.
