Thanks for the civics lesson but the Constitution applies to the government, not to private entities. Since shopping at CompUSA was not something one did because of a goverment mandate, they can set whatever requirements they wish (with some significant exceptions, of course). Nice to see someone interested in their rights, but keep studying.

In the United States, we have this thing called the "Constitution" that gives you "rights." It's worth a read, IMO. You NEVER have to consent to a search unless you have explicitly signed away this right (as is the case with Costco, etc.) Also: Central Computer for the win!

there was a rumor going around that central computer was like a front for some asian mafia or something? but whatever, it just adds to the mystique. i've found their customer service to be just fine, but they definitely aren't the type of place to hold your hand if you don't know what you want/need. and stuff like having them test a mobo/cpu combo to post before you take it home is just spiffy. A++++will buy from them again

Central Computer has a sign up telling you to check your bag, but I never do and they've never yelled at me. It really takes a lot to get anyone in Central to pay you attention, I think you have to stab someone.

CompUSA was a vile, horrid place and I did a dance of pure happiness when I saw they were going out of business. Any place that wants to search my bag/presumptively treat me like a thief can kiss my ass. Which is what I always took great pleasure in telling them.

There's something weird happening in my brain when I read the words "Silence the Violence." I think it's because the words rhyme, so I'm expecting them to be spelled the same; and when I see that extra O in "violence" it makes me mentally pronounce it like, "silence the vee-OH-lints." And then when I try to correct myself, it turns into "SEE-oh-lints the VEE-oh-lints."

Oh, and in other Dave Chappelle-related news, a friend saw him at a Silence the Violence vigil in Oakland on Wednesday. She said he wasn't part of the program or anything, but he said a few words.
