Hey, are you doing anything tomorrow night? If you're like us and you love the Heart of the City Farmers' Market (Wednesdays and Sundays on UN Plaza), you might want to consider going to City Hall, sidestepping the throngs of happy marrying couples, and going to room 250 at 5:00. See, Mayor Gavin has introduced legislation that would turn the operation of the market over to the city's Real Estate division, taking it away from its current board of directors.
The idea is that the city could somehow make more money off of the market, and use the extra to help close the budget deficit. Frankly, we're skeptical. If you can't make the meeting tomorrow, you can always go down there now and sign one of the petitions they have at the table pictured above. And pick up some strawberries...yum.

i recommend each and every reader try going to this event. for reals. please.
Are they trying to close it,or raise the prices or what?
Does this effect the giant Sat farmer's market on Alemany? You can get that that one on the 23 bus...
Waz up?
I'll be there!
The Dept. of Real Estate???? What do they know about running a farmer's market? And according to the link it would be chump change for the deficit.
Hey Empty Suit Nuisance - how about learning some basic math skills, and ditch some of your huge PR machine!
The 5:00 time is for public comment on any item in the 08-09 budget, including the revocation of U.N. plaza farmer's market permit.
The actual discussing about the legislation is earlier. It is item #9 of a Special budget and finance committee meeting that begins at 11:00. Public comment can also be made then.
