Photos: Gay Marriage Begins at SF City Hall, June 16

Exciting stuff, folks.

Here are some images recently taken late this afternoon at and around San Francisco City Hall as Mayor Gavin Newsom officiates Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin's marriage just inside. (Congratulations, ladies. Sob!) Needless to say, people are flipping their lids: Pastor Fred Phelps crew is there, gaggle upon gaggle of gays are all atwitter, and someone even has (reportedly) had a heart attack due to the extreme matrimonial merriment. Will update with photos as the night wears on.

Congratulations to Phyllis and Del and everyone else that now has marriage equality!

No Frank Chu? He's slipping.

Congrats to everyone who wants to get married. Trust me when I say it's a hell of a lot easier than getting divorced. Yeesh.

i was sad that frank chu was not there :( maybe he will be out tomorrow.

jameth - Do not fear!

Frank Chu indeed made an appearance and I was fortunate enough to be there when it happened:
Frank Chu poses in front of city hall.
Frank Chu getting interviewed.
Frank Chu sees the signs... and thinks his is better.

;)

i have a photo of me with frank :D it totally made my month.

Brock is boycotting Frank Chu for the next 84 days, according to this: http://sfist.com/2008/06/11/photo_du_jour_146.php

For shame, Editor. For shame.

I'm glad I was able to make it outside City Hall last night, but man, showing up to a marriage rally single and with your equally single roommate is kind of a downer! There's like no available mans whatsoever.

This is so, so great. Congratulations, newlyweds! Welcome to the club. It's been way, way too long coming.

I only wish I wasn't in Phoenix this week so I could see and hear the celebrations. It was awesome seeing everyone head to the Castro after the California Supreme Court decision.

Hey Tweety - I don't know if you know Del and Phyllis, but they're on the front page of the NYT.

Did big, fat Jameth get married yesterday?

I don't understand where these gay haters come from? Do they really drive all the way from Stockton just to protest?

Great photos. *snooze*

/sarcasm

Um, the gay-hating (and usually anti-choice) crowd lives right here in SF! Why does everyone act surprised by viewing, however infrequent, of the conservatives element? They live in the Sunset, or West Portal or either of the Richmonds, mostly, or they make a short drive from S. San Fran/Burlingame/Daly City...
come to the HUGE anti-choice march on the embarcadero in January for the best viewing. The San Francisco diocese very handily rounds up there parishioners year after year and gets 'em in the street with no problem.

re Franks sign: what are explicit fissures?

"Re Criminalize Sodomy?" Now that just takes all the fun out of my weekend.

We're heading over today to cover some of this too as we were there the first time Mayor Newsom first authorized them - should be fun!

I was there yesterday and saw Frank Chu hanging around Ted Rowlands and Ted Rowlands looking creeped out.

Suki, yep....you're absolutely right. the gay-hating (and usually anti-choice) crowd lives only a stone's throw. But don't cap on any places specific, it's mostly anywhere outside of the 2 mile radius of the center of the city - within, even. Unfortunately, hate has no boundary.

Side note: Is it so wrong for me to think one of those in the hater crowd is fuckin' hawt? *scratches* I feel me some deliverance comin on.

There are some great pictures of the event on MoreMarin.com
