I hate to drag this off topic even further, but rice doesn't kill birds. Both Snopes and The Straight Dope, arbiters of truth for the Internet that they both are, have come out against it. As well the only real evidence in favor of it is usually anecdotal with no confirmed cases to support it. Feel free to throw your rice. While it's nice that money is coming into the city I'm afraid that absolutely none of it will affect me in any way (unless the new trend is for couples to start donating large amounts of money to research... but I doubt it).

This is what we need. Photos of regular, everyday people who happen to be gay, getting married. Coming from a red state, most people I know back there seem to think all gay people run round in rainbow print thongs and dog collars in public, and it freaks them out. Once they see, hey, they really are just like you and me! (um, except during the Folsom street fair), I think it'll go a long way to breaking down people's prejudices. The more ads like this the better. And SF should start hyping this in their tourism marketing.
