MUSIC: Quebecoise indie-rock darlings Islands perform over in North Beach tonight. SF Weekly describes them, or one of them, as "neo-vaudevillian." To which we say, we just don't get music writing anymore. (Our fault entirely! We're slow in the head.) But this is how we shall describe them: if you love Arcade Fire, you're love Islands. Ta-da. Anyway, Despot and Crayonsmith for these stellar of-the-moment rock outfit.
9 p.m. // Bimbo's (1025 Columbus) // 18-20
FILM: I'm Through With White Girls (The Inevitable Undoing of Jay Brooks) screens at the Roxie tonight. This flick that won Best Film at the Hollywood Black Film Festival tells the charming tale about a black guy who -- get this! -- is into stuff white people like. Silly negro.

CRAFT: What better way to submit to domestic bliss than by knitting booties for your future grandkids at tonight's Monday Night Knit in the Castro. Straight, queer, on the DL, or asexual -- everyone is welcome at tonight's crocheting fibrous fun fest. For both beginners and advance.
7 p.m. // Three Dollar Bill Cafe (1800 Market) // free

Most music "writers" I've read have their heads so far up their asses they could reference a thesaurus through their nostrils. "Neo-vaudevillian"-- you've got to be kidding me. I would expect this term from a f*ckwit in LA, but not San Francisco.
man, bands are just getting worse and worse at managing their look.
i blame youtube and fallout boy.
it's shameful that kids of this generation might judge a band by the music they're putting out rather than how cool they look in their videos. it's not rock n roll if you don't look cool.
i mean seriously, two of them are are half-assed formal, one has some kind of rasta toque, another some tousled-hair indie stare, and yet another looks like he just got punched in the face? you kids need a coherent image. it's stylist time, for real.
