Small Blaze Shuts Down Fillmore, Cancels Shows

Last night's show at the Fillmore was on fire. Literally. Before headliners Dethklok hit the stage, an electrical fire was "sparked during Soilent Green's opening set," according to SF Weekly. Fans were ushered out of the building posthaste. Yikes.

Sadly, Dethklok couldn't go on, and the show was canceled. Dethklok's MySpace page breaks the news to their fans:

SF Show at the FILLMORE CANCELLED BECAUSE OF FIRE:

Last night June 6th a small electrical fire stopped the show stopped the DETHKLOK show from happening- everyone was evacuated safely and most importantly NO ONE WAS hurt.

The band was ready and excited to play especially because the Fillmore is an amazing and legendary kick ass venue. Ultimately the cops/fire department deemed the situation unsafe to perform and cancelled the show- not the band, not the venue but the cops. The band was incredibly disappointed to find they couldn't play. But again most importantly NOBODY GOT HURT.

The people in suits are trying to find out what to do- hopefully there will be a rescheduled show. do please check with THE FILLMORE'S website as they will be posting news as it comes to them.

Thanks to all the fans who remained incredibly cool, collected, and understanding during a possibly dangerous situation.

Sincerely,

Charles Offdensen

The Weekly goes on to report that the Fillmore's upcoming concerts the Dan Band (6/7) and Fish (6/9) have been postponed/rescheduled. Sorry, folks.

Oh, anybody at last night's fiery show? Details.

Yeah, I was there. GF snapped a couple (poor quality) pics with her sidekick, up on flickr here.

Totally brutal. But I at least expected the life-threatening danger to wait until Deathklok took the stage... silly me.

Dethklok started that fire because they knew SF isnt metal enough to handle the fury.

Glad that the City folks did their job and wanted to make sure everything was safe before allowing the building to get crowded again ... surely we wouldn't want the deaths and other horrible effects experienced at that Great White show in Rhode Island a few years ago.

Whatever. Deathklok sucks anyway.

Uh... the Fish concert was moved to the GAMH earlier this week. Not related to the fire at the Fillmore.

I thought these guys were so good, they had their own fire department to handle all the fans that set themselves on fire at concerts?

I thought Deathklok only played concerts inside the arctic circle. And the fish concert was moved to the GAMH because there's a larger backstage area for the drummer to hit on 9 year old girls.

Call me an old-fashioned romantic, but I thought Nathan & Rebecca Nightrod made a cute couple. Oh, well. That's show biz, I guess.

I was at the bus stop for the 22 at Fillmore and O'Farrell when the firetrucks all stopped a block away... I didn't want to be a rubberneck, so I headed for the 24.
