Parenthetical Girls vs. Los Campesinos

Different strokes for different folks, and all that. There’s a ton of great concerts to check out this weekend. One that SFist will be hitting is the Parenthetical Girls and Los Campesinos tonight at Bimbo’s. Need to be sold? Zac Penninton from the Parenthetical Girls and Ellen Campesinos! do their best with a short version of the SFist interview to sell you. Besides being great musicians, they’ve got some mad logic skills.
The best fans are...
Zac: oscillating? (Wah-Wah)
Ellen: The ones who don't know the words, but mouth along really enthusiastically anyway, it always makes me smile because they are still making the effort...but I dont think we can choose "the best fans," because they have paid to see us, so surely it is our job to entertain them not judge them. (Well we can judge them a little bit if they start shouting out stupid comments or bashing into people) If they are enjoying it despite our mistakes and unprofessionalism then that's always nice.
Best venue to play
Zac: Nationally, Parenthetical Girls are partial to both the Cake Shop in NYC and the Hi Dive in Denver. Our experience in the Bay Area is somewhat more limited, but we've had pleasant experiences at 21 Grand in Oakland, as well as both the Hemlock Tavern and Bottom of the Hill.
Ellen: We just played in Minneapolis at a place called Varsisty Theatre which had the most amazing decor, it was like a upmarket brothel (i imagine) I know that doesn't make it sound as aesthetic as it was, but think really upmarket where only the best ladies of the night hang out. Also it had big luxurious chairs on the side of the stage so when I got tired I could have a little break.
Lamest crowd request
Zac:Audiences who might tend to heckle are generally more inclined to just ignore us, but we did have an exceptionally awesome request from one audience member recently: a young gentleman asked our keyboardist Matt Carlson to sign his pick guard. The jury's still out as to whether he thought Matt might have been a Campesino!, but we're taking it as a sign that we've officially stepped up to "the next level". Considering that we recently witnessed Los Campesinos! signing some lucky kid's iPod however, it's obvious that we've got a long way to go.
Ellen: Not so much requests as annoying comments such as "so and so IS HAWT!" being shouted out, it puts you off, and also unless you are going to individually name us and shout out that each one of us is hot during the show then it creates jealously amongst the group. We all want to get off with that random member of the audience. Also a man asked me last night if we wanted any groupies. I thought he asked me if I had herpes, needless to say I don't but luckily this scared him off.
Favorite song to play these days
Zac:We're happy to be playing new songs of late, and of the handful of new numbers we're dabbling in, I think that I personally most enjoy playing a song called "Avenue of Trees".
Ellen: "We are all accelerated readers," because I like my bass line on it, and I get to shout at the end and it gives me a head rush which is always fun.
You should come see our show because...
Zac: Bimbos 365 is quite probably the largest venue you will ever have the opportunity to see Parenthetical Girls perform in the United States. Which must count for something.
Ellen: This season of Lost has ended and I am pretty sure the new episodes of "Tila Tequila: a shot of love" don't air that day, so there is nothing good on TV. I can't guarantee you the best night of your life as such but every single person who has come to our shows has gone on to find fame/fortune or a pot of gold within an hour after it ended so....
