B9 Or Be Square

sp.post.jun08.front.jpgIn our inbox, we found the following totally convincing reasons to attend tomorrow night's performance of Beethoven's ninth symphony of the Symphony Parnassus at the SF Conservatory Concert Hall. Behold:

  • Our conductor and Music Director is Stephen Paulson, who by day is San Francisco Symphony's principal bassoonist
  • Michael Tilson Thomas is an advisory board member, and occasionally attends our concerts
  • We have a mix of professional and amateur musicians
  • We're an all-volunteer nonprofit orchestra, supported financially by our musicians, audience members, and local foundations
  • Other members of the San Francisco Symphony (musicians and conductors) and Opera work with us, both as occasional musicians as well as section coaches; and
  • We've even had "traditional media" coverage.

    • Anyway, Symphony Parnassus rocks, we're a well-kept secret in the local performing arts community, and our goal is to let the secret out. Plus, you haven't lived until you've experienced the B9 live.

    Well, we want to live. So, we're going.

    Plus, in these waning days of the Bush Presidency, it might not be considered anti-patriotic and treasonous to listen to the 9th symphony's Ode to Joy anymore, which doubles as anthem for the surrendering monkeys of the European Union. See you there, kids.
