more art and more conversation about art! like it or not, koilos by michael christian is provoking conversation and thought, always a good thing. i am happy to see koilos in town, though i must admit that he does look much less cramped out in the desert. check him out in his natural habitat here. and by the way generic, that sorry old antiseptic slab they call the revitalized union square could use a wooden effigy or any large scale art project to give it some life. boooooring. koilos kicks cupid's arrow and that safety pin combined any day. yay for art - burningman and beyond!

Travin and Carney are correct. Relative to most public art (and especially compared to the stuff in this city), this isn't that bad. It sure the hell beats the "Passage" sculptures (two metal figures) on the Embarcadero.

I think it's great. Whether or not I agree with the aesthetics of burningman inspired art is neither here nor there and shouldn't rightly be of anyone's concern unless you enjoy the mental masturbation of the debate of what is art. You really don't want to come down on that side of the fence. And with a town becoming narrowly devoid of any meaningful culture and it's artists groaning at the weight of living expenses, I suggest folks begin embracing and supporting every hint of art, culture and artists we have in this town rather than mowing down what little tall grass we see, lest we discourage them all.

I like it. It's cute in a creepy, scary kind of way. And I actually had a tentanus shot in 2002 or so (rusty nail + bad soles = yay!), so I can illegally climb on it to my heart's content. :P
