MUSIC: The Godfather of Goth, Peter Murphy, brings his very special brand of glam, gloom, rock, and overzealous use of eyeliner to SF. And he's playing all of his old stuff to boot! Ali Eskandarian opens the show.

8 p.m. // The Regency Center (1290 Sutter) // $32.50

FILM: Huh. Who knew women could sing more than showtunes and arias? Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein did. And you can watch as she "uses young women through an intensive five-day basic training" of rock et roll in the 2007 documentary Girls Rock!. Directors Arne Johnson and Shane King will be on-hand at the 7:15 p.m. show for a Q&A, and the As Ifs perform from 6:30 -7 p.m.

6:30 p.m. (music); 7:15 p.m. (film) // Red Vic (1727 Haight) // $5-8.50

Girls Rock! KICKS ASS! Go see this movie!

And tonight: Ed Harcourt @ Cafe du Nord! Like Jeff Buckley crossed with Tom Waits, or a less fey Rufus Wainwright. So, so, SO good.
