Quote of the Day: Sharon Stone

SharonStoneandthelama.jpg

Former Marin resident and current insane person, Sharon Stone, made the following Jerry Falwell-ish quip the other day.

They're not being very nice to the Dali Lama, who's a good friend of mine ... I'm not happy about how the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else ... All these earthquakes and stuff happened and I thought, 'Is that karma?' When you are not nice, bad things happen to you.

Interesting. Is this woman severely retarded? or just mean? or both? Please advise.

Magnificent!
I really hope she and the Dali Lama hang out and watch Casino together and everytime they get to the part where Ginger throws the chips in the air, the Dali giggles and clapps his hands and chants...

She actually has a fairly high IQ, and skipped a grade in school.

But she was also a Scientologist. So, there's that.

yes! love her in Casino. i would chant.

The Dali Hoo-ha

one thing we know for sure:

that photo is severely disturbing

nice mash up

Um, I think she was speaking figuratively. You humans need work on your reading comprehension skills.

She is correct, however, in that when you're not nice, bad things will happen to you. Not natural disaster type bad things, but things like people screwing you over, etc. I mean, look at that old bag Leona Helmsley. She wasn't just mean, she was the Queen of Mean. What happened to her? She spent her last years locked up in a penthouse all alone, unloved, with no company save her dog and a staff of Filipinos - who later found her dead, stiff body, gnawed away at by said dog. Is this what you want to happen to you? Keep treading down the path of mean y'all are on, mean people. you'll see...

You can catch more flies with honey, etc., etc.

Yeah, thousands of innocent civilians being killed by earthquakes is definately karma. They deserved it for what their oppressive government is doing to other innocent civilians.

LoL @ Joel! I will never look at the Dali, nor Ms. Stone's Hoo-ha, the same way again.

Thank you!

"when you're not nice, bad things will happen to you."

I firmly believe this is bullshit. There are far too many assholes breezing through life for this to be true. I can think of a few in Washington, right now, who are going to die rich and happy of old age.

"...I can think of a few in Washington, right now, who are going to die rich and happy of old age."

That's what you think...

Under her logic I suppose the Tibetans have been raping and pillaging all this time since bad things have been happening to them for decades.

In all fairness to Ms. Stone, I'd say she was being momentarily stupid and thoughtless and it's not necessarily indicative of her character in general (I hope).

Typical lame remark by a celebrity. Her understanding of karma in this instance is closer to the idea of poetic justice. She's using what happened as a means to blame someone or something.

She was NOT speaking figuratively. She gave that stupid quote in direct response to a red carpet question about the recent China earthquake.

Her quote was no different than Jerry Falwell's assertion that Hurricane Andrew was caused by Teh Gays in West Palm Beach, or Pat Robertson saying that America "deserved" 9/11, or any other nutcase who has (ironically) used a Hindu principle to support a rightwing agenda.

Karma is merely a spiritual explanation of causality (beneficial/harmful effects are derived from past beneficial/harmful actions) intended to apply to individual lives. Using it to explain natural phenomena or wide-scale tragedy, or even using it to justify a horrible event in someone's life, is a VERY dangerous slope. I dare you to utter "karma" to a rape victim, or a Holocaust survivor, or a child with cancer. Double dare!

Tendernob - She was speaking figuratively.

How is she speaking figuratively? I don't get it either.

Also, she was dropped by Christian Dior as spokesmodel in the PRC and the largest movie chain in the country has banned her movies forever because of her comment. See? Karma!

The key thing about karma is that it means something YOU define as bad will happen to you if you do something YOU define as bad to somebody else.

Just as a lie detector can't catch someone who thinks they're telling the truth, karma can't catch someone who thinks they're doing the right thing - which is almost everyone, almost all the time.

seriously....How is she speaking figuratively?

YOU FAIL.

We're talking about a woman whose primary claim to fame is spreading her legs in a movie where she kills somebody with an ice pick. Then some rich guy who owns a newspaper saw aforementioned beaver shot and bought a larger bed and invited her into it.

I don't know about you, but that's where I get my news.

She's ridiculous. Remember when she insulted the Germans? http://news.softpedia.com/news/Bid-You-Nasty-Little-Germans-47065.shtml

Ugh.

She in no way said thousands of people deserved to die because of their government. She pondered the idea that maybe bad things happen as a result of karma. It was totally figurative.

Karma is what happens to you in the next life, not this one. And I don't care how many teachers didn't want her and pushed her into the next grade, she is stupid.
