Well, this is jarring.
This morning at little before 11 a.m. at Pine and Battery a rather nasty accident happened. Reader Mike Miller sent SFist images and a brief report of the scene:
Happened a little before 10:45 this morning….. other car involved was a red Mazda. Driver appeared OK, but they were treating him in the ambulance. Witnesses gave conflicting stories – one person said one of the cars was speeding the wrong way down Pine, another said one of the cars ran the red light on Battery….Battery closed for a little while at California. Pine closed at Battery.
The wrong way down Pine. Jesus. Anyway, we hope the drivers are in good condition. Really, not the best day to drive in SF.

Wow, I work around the corner from there and was wondering what all the racket was.
I saw it. It looked like something out of Die Hard. As best I could figure out, the guy in the red car was going the correct way down Pine (the correct way IS toward the ocean, right?). It appeared to me (and I did not see the initial impact, only the grey car flying through the air), that either someone was running a red light, or the grey car was turning right onto pine and not watching for traffic coming in his direction.
At any rate, it appeared the red car came down Pine, and t-boned the grey car at the intersection of Pine and Battery. The red car pulled over immediately, onto Battery, facing Market, so I don't think anyone was coming down Pine the wrong way.
what would cause a car to flip like that? a sideswipe? a stunt ramp?
"what would cause a car to flip like that?"
packed action.
I don't know. It didn't even look like the car was damaged that badly. It must have been hit at just the right angle or something. All I could see was that a side mirror was damaged. And like I said, there was minimal damage to the red car. Just left a bumper in the road and the front was dented in, but not horribly smashed or anything.
I wondered what the racket was, I heard it from my vantage point on the throne in the men's room, so I was prevented from springing into my superhero costume and responding. It sounded like a bunch of stuff falling.
Is that a Honda CR-V on it's roof? Or a Kia? At any rate, if you're speeding at 50-plus down Pine or Battery, like pretty much everyone does when traffic is not jammed up, it's pretty easy to oversteer and roll, particularly if you're been hit in front or behind an axle.
I couldn't tell, it was just some small suv-ish type thing. I was mainly looking for evidence of death/blood/entrail spillage, didn't pay too close of attention to the car itself.
It appears to be a Lexus RX350.
that place behind it makes tasty pasta but takes too long
