Quote of the Day: George Bush and the Nazis

lolnazi.jpg

Good grief. During a speech/swipe at Barack Obama to Israel's Knesset (i.e., Israel's legislature), President Bush quipped:

Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.

God bless the man, but, really, how has he eluded assassination for almost eight years?

Last I head the Republicans were expecting to lose 25 seats in the House, their worst hosing since Watergate. With any hope they'll lose 100 more seats, in addition to McCain losing, as our fucktard President goes further off the deep end.

Whats even better is that yesterday he announced that he is giving up golf in respect to all the soldier who lost there lives.

"God bless the man, but, really, how has he eluded assassination for almost eight years?"

Because all the people with guns are the ones that support him...

Bush has eluded impeachment or any other attack, because the prospect of Cheney becoming president is too frightful for most people, even right-wingers, to contemplate.

Sheer luck. There was an assasination attempt on him in the Ukraine several years ago. Someone threw a grenade onto the stage where he was giving a speech. The grenade did not explode, but nobody--not even the secret service--noticed it until afterwards. Actually, the Ukrainian Secret Police saw it, but they chose not to inform the Secret Service until after the speech had concluded, at which point the assassin was long gone. The US was pretty furious at the Ukraine for withholding the information.

George Bush is the most nazi-like american I know of. How dare this facist creep speak this way. He should be tried for war crimes by a Nuremberg type commission.

I always had a soft spot for the Ukraine.

Nothing that douchenozzle says surprises me anymore.

Um...

The guy is an ass and all, perfectly suited to have a sewage plant named after him, but isn't this just a little bit much?

Well, everyone loves Chicken Kiev.

God bless you, Dubya. Revisionist history is the only history that matters, and you understand that.

"but, really, how has he eluded assassination for almost eight years?"

Because, let's face it, Democrats are wimps.

Well lots of anti-Bush vitriol here but no actual reasoning.

I find the "revisionist history" comment particularly amusing. Is your point that appeasement was a successful policy against Nazi Germany?

Not surprising that the reaction here echoes Obama's reaction. He is deeply offended etc. etc. but he doesn't actual agree or disagree with the statement. Of course, he is in a difficult position because he is so busy flip-floping on whether or not he would or would not directly talk with the Iran at the presidential level. I am not sure what the explanation is for the rest of you.

SFB

The explanation is that the anti-Bushies are now so bamboozled by this presidency we have lost our ability for anything BUT vitriol.

How can you blame us? It's a landscape (not a democracy!) where no matter how hard we shout, all we get back are our own echoes.

"Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided."

What senator actually said this?

Appeasement is not the same thing as discussion.

Def. Sec. Gates also said yesterday we should be holding dialogs with Iran.

Want some recent "revisions" from Bush? Read the Kieth Olbermann rant from last night "Mr. Bush…Shut the hell up!" for tons o' juicy examples of Bush making stuff up.

How many Godwin points is that?

"The policy of granting concessions to potential enemies to maintain peace."

That is the definition of the word appeasement. I only heard a willingness to talk, not appease. So if you want me to talk to my son, when he misbehaves, I will. If you want me to appease him, I will give him everything he wants.

"What senator actually said this?"

This is what I want to know. Sounds like one of Reagan's bullshit and thoroughly debunked "welfare queen" stories.

Although apparently it is not made-up bullshit. It was Senator William Borah from Idaho who said if he had only been able to "talk" to Hitler. Not "kiss his ass" not "give him whatever he asks for."

Talk. Of course, it's not hard to believe that Bush doesn't actually understand the concept of talking and using diplomacy skills.

The assumption seems to be that talking at the head of state level has only positive consequences AND that it is likely to be productive. With respect to Iran both those assumptions are incorrect. Of course, dialogue can (and does) occur at lower levels and through back channels. In short, diplomacy is a little bit more complex than just sitting down for a chat.

Good point about diplomacy. No one is making the assumption that it is always succsessful.

Diplomacy is not always successful, but it should at least be attempted. This regime needs to look up both diplomacy and appeasement in the dictionary because it obviously has no idea what either mean.

Speaking of Appeasement, if anybody missed this exchange between a right wing radio talk show host and Chris Matthews, it is hillarious.
