Bay to Breakers Race Course Liquor Store Locator

Our Bay to Breakers coverage – which kicked off this morning in a post so drunk and confused it had to be deleted – continues without shame as we direct you to this handy Bay to Breakers Liquor Store Locator. Many of you know how long sections of this race course are painfully lacking in places to buy additional smokes and booze for your continued "running." But with knowledge of a few specific escape valves in Golden Gate Park, you can dash into civilization at the right spots and return smack dab into the mayhem with a solid inventory.

The map is provided in full-size and analyzed in street-level detail at the invaluable Exercising While Intoxicated blog. (Full Disclosure: um, we wrote it.) The overall situation with liquor stores on the race course is summed up as such:

Both the starting and finishing stretches of the Bay to Breakers race course are badly barren of liquor stores, with a healthy abundant patch in the middle. The course's first liquor store open on a Sunday morning doesn't materialize until past the 1.5 mile marker, Go Go Market at the Ninth Street turn. Shocking, huh? They've been open since 6. From there on it's solid coverage through Hayes Valley, up Hayes Hill, and Western Addition. Special attention should be paid to jumping off course in the middle of the Panhandle to visit Lucky Supermarket at Fulton & Masonic. You'll get supermarket discounts on beer and hard liquor, and this is your last chance to get liquor until painfully-way-more-off-course options up at 11th and 19th Avenues far along into Golden Gate Park.

The 19th Street option can spit you right into a bustling marketplace section of The Sunset -- but getting off the race course path and up on to 19th Avenue passing overhead requires navigating through a crazy, challenging little forest trail. You have to really want your alcohol to be doing that. Once you're past the Race Photo station and Footstock turn-off, any attempt to go off course and get booze or cigarettes and then try to find your friends again will surely take longer than just gutting it out and finishing the race course. Even if you're just walking. You're almost at Mile Six. There's a 76 station right at the Finish Line with cigarettes, and Beach Chalet will be having a rocking after-party where you all can at least get a drink, regroup, and figure out where it goes from there.

Do try to note that in addition to trash and recycling receptacles situated about the race course, there is a jumbo trash and recycling arrangement at the Footstock location which is also noted on the Liquor Store Locator Map. Looks like they’re trying to get us to be a little more on it about handling our trash this year.

Don't forget the 7-11 at 46th and Judah, and the Safeway at LaPlaya and Fulton!

Mmm... whiskey laced slurpee.

Any word if the Hash House Harriers have something planned?

@ Akit

Thanks for the tips! I will be altering the high-res original throughout the weekend, so those changes will be added if you click on the image.

Can you purchase liquor in the nude or must you cover up first?

Leave it to the Western Addition to come through with the booze!

I might be be in the Red Cross First Aid tent at the finish line like last year. If you're going to accidentally try to leave this world a-la Elvis, please do it at our tent instead of in the middle of Fulton street, you'll probably have EMTs on you within 20 Dec.

Within 20 SEC. Not next December. Sheesh!

I wonder if the mom-and-pop place across the street from 7-11 at 46th and Judah will be open! They have booze, wine, beer and beef sticks to match!

oh yeah that's a good one too megang!

To make a statement, I propose that we do not attend the b2b, but instead congregate ELSEWHERE in SF.

This will accomplish 2 things
1) Reduce the numbers on the b2b route.
2) Increase visability elsewhere, ie not on the b2b route.

Perhaps the police will then realize that they can not be EVERYWHERE in SF, at the same time.

It would be in their best interest to have us at the 2010 b2b, instead of us running havoc elsewhere.

I know its a tough decision to not be at the b2b route, we might feel we're missing out. But look at the big picture (ie preserving b2b in the future) If we don't stand up and make a VERY loud statement / BOYCOTT this year, we may loose our battle.

Who's for meeting at Dolores Park ?
Who's for meeting at Chrissy Field ?
Who's for meeting at Glen Park ?(not a bay or breaker to be found, the ultimate b2b boycott statement)
