Seizures Caused By Hackers' Posts On Epilepsy Forum

tonicclonic.jpg

Hackers aren't just money-grubbing and annoying. They're also just plain funny evil. Take, for example, the hackers who recently loaded the Epilepsy Foundation's Web site with hundreds of pictures and links to with rapidly flashing images. The images, it seems, "triggered severe migraines and near-seizure reactions in some site visitors who viewed the images," according to AP.

How mean.

The inundation of flashing images occurred when hackers noticed "a security hole in the foundation's publishing software" and went to town. Folks with photosensitive epilepsy, you see, can have seizures after being exposed to flickering images.

The site is now heavily monitored by a moderator, so don't even think about it. And to check out what one of these flashing images looks like, follow the jump. If you don't want to watching a seizing-inducing image, then don't.

Thanks, Alissa, for sending this our way.

They should be charged with assault.

I stared at that image for a good five minutes hoping it'd cause something to happen and I'd be able to leave work for the day, but much like those Magic Eye 3-D posters... nothing happened.

Ever had sex with a bucking epileptic?

It's the closest thing to true love on this earth.

OK, that hack job was mean, but also genius.

Wow.

I can't even express how ridiculously wrong that is. Very upsetting.

Can you please remove or put a link to that hideous flashing pic?

it was the corporation of $cientology who did that. moar research plz?

Seizure the moment? Seriously?

@clammy,

no.

Haha, awesome.

Local relevance?

some in sf both use the internet and have epilepsy.

My best friend uses the Internet, has epilepsy and lives in SF. It's very relevant!

BTW: "Seizure the moment" = brilliant.

that flashy thing made my eyes go weird.

Epilepsy or not, any animated GIF is a violation of the Geneva Convention. I'm calling Jimmy Carter.

Local relevance?

Well, that guy Jameth lives here

@WSanders:

I think the bad pun is a violation of the Geneva Convention.

Gosh, that flashing light thing is a sceeery moment in the moview Andromeda Strain!

The people who said it is funny or awesome are complete idiots. It is pretty horrible considering that when someone has a seizure, they are in danger of seriously hurting themselves...I didn't hear about anyone actually having one, but the morons who did it didn't care if someone fell and hit their head.

Now, I am the type of person who loves inappropriate jokes, but this was not cool.
