Cyclone.jpg

Hey, you! Looking to help people ravaged by the Myanmar cyclone? The twister that struck the country has claimed over 100,000 live so far. And the Foundation for the People of Burma, a nonprofit group right over on Bush Street, just launched a funding drive for disaster relief. You can check them out here and donate here. It's just that simple, folks.

Also, there are some local vigils going on for those of you looking to grieve, light a candle in honor of, or whatever. Check it:

  • Vigil and Political Rally Against Burmese Government (two-in-one--how convenient!) San Francisco Federal Building, 450 Golden Gate Ave 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 5/9
  • Prayer Vigil (Fremont) Mettananda Vihara Buddhist Monastery, 4619 Central Ave., Fremont 2 p.m. Saturday, 5/10
  • Prayer Vigil (Oakland) Oakland Burmese Mission Baptist Church, 534 - 22nd St., at Telegraph, Oakland 6 p.m. Saturday, 5/10

But I thought Myanmar Won't Allow U.S. Aid??
At least thats what sfgate says.

Yep. They'd rather let their people go without necessities than accept aid from the U.S. The UN's having trouble getting access too.

Also, the death toll is around 23,000, according to the BBC.

This is Americans in a nut shell - More boo hoos about a dead overbred race horse than 100,000 dead brown people.

^^^(elephanza) were trying to help them BUT they dont want our help. Try again.
