Chris Weekly,

there used to be a Yoshinoya in the City, over on Battery if I remember correctly. not sure when it closed, but I would totally get down on some beef bowl action if it were still there. As for El Pollo Loco, I used to eat there a couple of times a month back in LA too. Good stuff, really hard to beat as far as "healthy" fast food goes. Wouldn't mind having one in the city, helluva lot better than Popeye's...

I would love to have a Wendy's back downtown. The dollar menu saved me on way too many occasions.

I was so sad when the Arby's on .. wait, where was it.. Battery between Clay and Washington? Somewhere around there. Anyway, I was really sad when that went away.

A downtown In-n-Out would definitely rock.

I stay away from fast food, but will make exceptions for In ‘n Out and Carls Jr. Wendys is mediocre, but not nearly as vile as Burger King or McDs.

bluecanary, I just went to the Fisherman’s Wharf In ‘n Out on Saturday and it raised my blood pressure about 30 points. Loud yapping tourists, screaming babies, and NOWHERE to sit, even at the off-hour of 3:30pm. (I was only there to shop at the Barnes & Noble – otherwise I stay away from FW altogether.) The Daly City In 'n Out at least has a Krispy Kreme next door and a bowling alley across the street! That's how to do chains right!

This is why I love SFIst. Not too hoity toity or PC to love a good fast food burger once in a while. No "meat is murder" comments (yet).

Thanks for the clarification on the Carl's Jr. name, jnice. It's still a dumb name, but a tasty burger.

Hey, why no Nation's Burger or Fatburger here, either?

Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy's, was a homophobe. But since he's dead I see no reason not to eat at Wendy's. Sometimes a fast food burger place is what hits the spot.

I'd rather SF get a Dairy Queen or a Sonic (I'd love to see SF servers on roller skates serving at a Sonic. It'd be pretty hilarious.)

Forget Wendy's. As soon as they went out of business downtown I emailed In n'Out to let them know an empty fast food restaurant was available, and invited them to do us a favor and move in.

Unfortunately, they have no such plans on the horizon. But if I were going to have another fast food chain in the city, this would be it. And it's okay to put one in the FiDi, because that place is already lousy with Starbucks as it is.

Have you tried to get into the one on Fisherman's Wharf? Quelle nightmare.

I would love to have a Wendy's again, but fast food chains in SF are not the same as suburban locations. Unfortunately they usually end up dirty, a hang out for homeless and the staff isn't exactly stellar. Wish it wasn't so.

*scandalized*

That's Pippi Longstocking, not Wendy! Pippi Longstocking would beat the crap out of Wendy and Dave Thomas, prolly after they'd try to throw her into some Wendy's supported children's home. I'm deeply angered that you would even dare to equate the reputable Pippi Longstocking with that hamburger pushing whore, Wendy. What the hell is wrong with you?

How about an In'n'Out on Market St.?

Currently there is no In'n'Out in SF. (The closest ones are in Daly City, by the Colma BART station, and then there's the one by Fisherman's Wharf -- which I consider to be like that tiny tip of Alameda Island -- inside SF city limits but not really San Francisco. =)

...but while we're dreaming about bringing midwest chains like White Castle here... how about Steak'n'Shake? It's sort of what you'd get if you took In'n'Out but threw out the menu simplicity and gave it a menu the size of Denny's, but still keeping the drive-thru.

Ideally, though, I'd like a *local* fast food joint that managed to be cheap without having to buy into a franchise.

Of all the fast food chains, I find Wendy's to be one of the least loathsome.

In fact, I often made a special trip over to Market just to get a single w/ bacon. And their fries are really good, too.

Now, if you want to bring a new chain to the city, I suggest Krystal:

Like White Castle sliders, but good.

I know this is about Wendy's, but just look at this menu: http://bojangles.com/greatfood_menu.html

I'm tired of Safeway's (everything) fried chicken. I wouldn't dare step foot into a KFC or Popeye's.

Bojangles is high quality

Man... I was craving some Wendy's the other night hardcore. I'd like it (back) in the city.

While we're at it can we also get a Chick-fil-a (the one is Sac is too far) and umm a Bojangles too? I know the closest Bojo is like 2,300 miles away and is far from being economical for the franchise; but come on, it would make a killing in SF. I have yet to find any good/cheap southern food that I think is worth anything.

In a related note, does anyone eat biscuits around here?

Yay Pippi!

I'm a snob when it comes to burgers, so anything more fast-foody than In-and-Out isn't my bag, but I appreciate their large variety of side orders (baked potato, chili, fries of course, etc.).

No, it's all about the Carl's Jr. (and why isn't that Carl Jr.'s?) $6 burger.

The Wendy's root beer floats are okie doke with me, though.
