SFist Tonight

Blended_Margarita.jpg

FIESTA, FOREVER: Cinco de Mayo is a holiday honoring "an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn over French forces in the Battle of Puebla," according to Wikipedia. And on that night way back in May 5, 1862, said forces celebrated this win with chips, salsa, frozen margaritas, and body shots. Or so we assume. No one really knows for sure.

That said, here are a couple of Latin American-ish events going on tonight that really have nothing to do with Mexico or a battle at Puebla, but will probably involve lots of tequila: Salsa dancing at Roccopulco (7 p.m.), Monday Night Salsa at Cafe Cocomo (lesson 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.; open dancing 9 p.m.-midnight); Cinco de Mambo at the Elbo Room (9 p.m.), featuring DJs Vinnie Esparza, Vanka, and Beto spinning Latin, funk, and mambo. Spicy!

MUSIC: Laura Veirs and Liam Finn perform in Potrero Hill tonight. Check out Emily's interview with Veirs here. Show starts at 9 p.m. at Bottom of the Hill; $12.
