Although hating on hipsters is, oddly enough, very hip right among self-consciously nerdy Bay Area denizens, SFist must delve into the scene for a moment. Why? Well, to point out some glaring omissions with regard to DJ Times magazine's America's Best DJ nominee list.
According to ASD, loads of local, talented, but predictable faves--such as DJs Theo, Gabriel & Dresden, Kaskade, DJ Shadow, Mark Farina, DJ Qbert, DJ Behrouz, Bassnectar, Claude VonStroke, Miguel Migs, Garth--were all nominated for Best American DJ. But many notables were left off. Kids like DJs Earworm, Bus Station John, Jeffrey Paradise (formerly Jefrodisiac, at right), Omar, and Richie Panic, just to name a few, weren't on the list. Bah.
Any others that deserved a tip of the hat?

Do any DJ's have, like, real names?
yes.
Yeah and what about DJTennessee?!?!
My vote is for DJ Tennessee, the Hasslehoffinest DJ around!
I vote for the hairy monster Dave Lee Travis
DJ Bus Station John is hardly a kid DJ. He's been collecting records since before you were born. The kids only wish they had that kind of library.
are you freakin' kidding me? are you honestly trying to put local jacko's like jefrodesiac and ritchie panic in the same company as people like DJ Shadow and QBert, etc? that is completely laughable
all of the nominees are top-notch, yes; but there's room for more. the aforementioned would fit nicely.
also, a gig at ruby skye doesn't necessarily equal star power or inherently good skills manning at the decks.

The reason why DJs don't use their real names is because they're all called Josh, they all drive Jettas and they all went to liberal arts colleges paid for by their dentist fathers.
