Grand Theft Auto IV Vigourously Bought

gta-iv-trailer-2.jpg

Over at EB Games on Powell Street, people lined up this morning to plunk down $60 to commit heinous acts of vehicular manslaughter. You see, Grand Theft Auto IV went on sale today. Apparently, it's the most realistic version yet, thus the franchises most gruesome. Hopefully. And according to the Chron, "about two dozen hardcore video gamers streamed into the store when a clerk unlocked the front door at 10 a.m. ... head[ing] right for the cash register, $20 bills in hand," looking to get their hands on this month's must-have game

So far, sales seem to be doing very well; critics are, of course, disgusted; and Wired has a nifty poll going on, asking if GTA is the best game title of all time. (We say Tetris. Or Space Quest.)

Oh yeah, and Grand Theft Auto IV is rated "Mature," kids. Don't play it, or it will ruin your life forever.

I can feel Leland Yee's indignation radiating all the way from Sacramento.

What a misleading headline -- the critics certainly aren't aghast -- ign gave this thing a motherfuckin' 10.

They should say "BUSYBODIES COMPLAIN, SUPRISING NO-ONE".

Is Leland a playable character in this game? I'm sure protesters want to chase him down.

As for the game, I paid in full a week ago and just picked it up a couple of hours ago.

Game critics are comparing it to Citizen Kane:

with all the free press they get out of it, i can't help but think the parents television council folks are just full of glee about this game coming out.

the way they manage to get interviewed as "experts" on such matters for practically every mainstream article about this game is amazing.

there was a midnight release for this game, which is why Chron or whoever only saw "two-dozen hardcore gamers.' i happened to be in santa rosa and picked it up at midnight with about 300 other people (a line and everything) and then took yesterday off of work to rot my brain and distort my values.

and it was awesome.
