"Orders bust of himself erected at City Hall," reports SF Citizen. Will advise of impending doom.

Gavin... whose your daddy? Me! Darth Vader!

Nice graffiti blackboard.

Gold or dark blue to match city hall please...

Why is Gavin mowing the lawn? His efforts to clean up the city are truly amazing...

"Impressive. Most impressive."

Before this city pays another idiot in disguise as an artist, could we send whoever pays these frauds on a field trip? Could we try to build something beautiful for a change? There are sculptures and gardens all over the world that take one's breath away with the exquisite beauty.
What do we have? A pile of red twisted metal in front a classical museum, the Legion of Honor. A wall of gray cement meant to look like a ship (?) at the Cliff House; I have yet to talk to one San Franciscan that didn't get angry just talking about that nightmare. The mechanical museum is now in pier 39 where noone with an ounce of sense would go to see antique games.
Now a big block of black rock plopped like a lump of tar in front of a turn of the century architectural wonder. It belongs in front of Walmart Stop destroying this city's landmarks with these eyesores. Hire an artist with training in ART. Study a little history.
And these guys call tagging an eyesore.

You want ugly? Let's discuss the burning man bullshit that gets erected on the pier by the ferry building.

I just saw some of those ' art pieces' there at Civic Center today, sheest Junior High School students have more imagination and create better pieces of art. I have to agree that San Francisco seems to lack a sense of style when it comes to alot of art projects. There is that ugly metal monstrosity of a fountain at Justin Herman Plaza and that fountain of blocks in United Nations Plaza..... it's ridiculous for an International City to have such pathetic pieces of art.

Who approves this shit?

I want that job. Obviously you can't go wrong.

I actually I like these sculptures.

And as much as I agree with groucho that a lot of the public art we have in SF is less than inspiring (eg- some of the stuff on the t-third) I think the solution is more public art, not less. That way even the most cynical sfist commenters would be likely to find something they like.

I like to think of it as a black skirt missing a torso, arms and a head.
