We'll let you in on a little secret: we love the Embarcadero Center. It reminds us a little of South Coast Plaza a bit, but a bit smaller, not as chic, and with unnatural natural light coming through. Here's a dizzying shot one of their many spiral staircases.

Pretty.

UGH, my mother in law lives near the southcoast plaza, not a fan. (take from that what you will).

I loved the Embarcadero Center when I was a kid - the walkways, escalators and of course the Hyatt atrium and that crazy fountain.

Unfortunately hanging around the financial district on weekends wasn't up there on my parents' favourite things to do.

Slippery when wet! Oh, and John Portman is a god among architects!

Check out Coppola's The Conversation. Great scenes shot there.

I'm with daithi on Southcoast Plaza.

Acres of illuminated parking; acres of snobby Orange County rich white people.

everything i needed to know i learned at south coast plaza.

I've been working in Embarcadero II for a few years now and you just get numb to it really...

I think some ' Weed ' Beer would help enhance my enjoyment of this lovely looking staircase.

Southcoast Plaza has a much higher Cougar Count than the Embarcadero centers. EC hovers around 0.02, and SCP is around 0.7.

Much easier to pick off a temporary mate in their 40s who need a little validation.

I saw a place that looks just like it in Atlanta. Probably the same architects. For what it is ( a shopping center, basically), I love it.

EC is the hallowed banking hours hunting-ground of the panther, manther, he-cougar, whatever you want to call it. There's a men's lavatory that was visible from my desk: oh, the long lines at lunchtime..

It had notably less of that pesky natural light back before they put in all those 90's-esque glass and chrome railings, to replace the original grubby cantilevered concrete planter benches. It was all very Logan's Run, an extension of the Hyatt Regency's interior.

My husband told me about some bathroom in the Embarcadero that comes with its own leather-daddy. Only in SF.

True or False: Was DOOM modelled on the EC?

ok, I work in EBC1. You can literally be born and die in this center. It's friggin fabulous.

Clearly, I haven't reached the "numb" phase yet...

Now that does sound very ' Logan's Run', though I had a ' Sliders' flashback ,the episode with the Cloud Mall.

I love this center. It's rarely crowded. I can get my chain food fix by going to Chevy's and then tempering that out by catching an art film. A perfect combo in my world.
